Physician-Primary Care

Salary Range $210,000.00 - $280,800.00 Position Type Full Time 30+ hours Education Level Graduate Degree Travel Percentage Negligible Category Health Care

Description

Position Title: Physician (Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with interest in Geriatrics) Department: Primary Care Supervisor: Medical Director Status / Hours per week: Exempt / 1.0 FTE

Salary Range: The expected base salary for the position is $210,000-$280,800 per year.

Primary Function: Provide general health care to adult patients, including health maintenance, episodic/acute care, and chronic disease management.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide primary medical management for patients.
  • Deliver patient care and patient education in the manner that is appropriate to patient's age, physical ability, educational level, and culture.
  • Conduct health assessments and evaluate the needs of patients in the primary care clinic.
  • Conduct physical exams, order and/or perform laboratory and diagnostic tests, and make clinical judgments regarding results.
  • Perform minor procedures, as appropriate given prior training.
  • Initiate appropriate consultations and referrals. Act as a primary care resource to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide consultation and in-service training to other clinical staff.
  • Participate in teaching activities and clinical supervision relationships with nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical students.
  • Document history and physical exam, assessment, and treatment interventions in the medical record as per UCHC policies.
  • Participate in provider meetings and appropriate committees.
  • Participate in physician on-call and weekend coverage on a rotating basis.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in regular schedule of clinical care, team, and department meetings.
  • Support team-based model of care and provide leadership to care team meetings.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Strive to meet appropriate quality measures for patient population.
  • Participate in peer review as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an appropriate medical training program in Internal or Family Medicine.
  • Experience in geriatric medicine preferred.
  • Current Massachusetts license to practice medicine.
  • Certified by appropriate medical specialty board, or eligible for certification.
  • Current controlled substance registration certificate from both the federal government and the state of Massachusetts.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems, particularly Epic.
  • Experience in a setting that is passionate about community health.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients and with staff.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, teaching and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Cape Verdean Creole desirable.

Independent Action:

  • As described above at "Duties & Responsibilities".

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Provides supervision to no more than two nurse practitioners or physician's assistants at any time.
  • Precepts internal medicine residents.

Define Access Level to PHI: Level 4 - Authorized to access full health information. UCHC position and job responsibilities involve the provision of patient care and working as a clinical team member. Staff in this category level, although allowed full access, should only access the necessary information for each respective treatment encounter/circumstance.
