STLHD FAB is a growing steel fabrication and installation company focused on delivering high-quality commercial and industrial projects throughout Arizona. We take pride in craftsmanship, speed, safety, and building long-term relationships with our clients and trade partners.

We are seeking a driven, hands-on Structural Steel Estimator/Operations Manager to help lead and grow our company. This individual will play a key leadership role overseeing estimates, shop operations, field installation, quality control, scheduling, workforce coordination, and overall project execution.

This is an opportunity for someone who understands structural steel, enjoys building teams, solving problems, and wants to help grow a company with long-term leadership potential.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate is a strong leader with experience in structural steel fabrication, field erection, rigging, and welding operations. This person must be capable of managing people, coordinating work between the shop and field, maintaining quality standards, and helping drive projects safely and efficiently to completion.

This role requires someone who can lead by example, communicate clearly, and create accountability while maintaining a positive, team-oriented culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily shop and field operations for structural and miscellaneous steel projects
  • Coordinate fabrication, delivery, installation, and manpower scheduling
  • Oversee field crews, welders, riggers, and installers to ensure safe and efficient execution
  • Read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, erection plans, and welding details
  • Ensure projects are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications, schedules, and quality standards
  • Help manage production flow, material coordination, and installation sequencing
  • Maintain strong communication with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal team members
  • Identify and resolve fabrication, fit-up, installation, or scheduling issues proactively
  • Enforce company safety standards and promote a culture of accountability and professionalism
  • Assist with estimating, project planning, procurement, and operational improvements when needed
  • Mentor and develop team members to improve overall company performance and capabilities
  • Support business growth through strong leadership, client relationships, and operational excellence

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication, erection, welding, or steel operations leadership
  • Strong understanding of structural steel installation methods, rigging, welding, and fabrication processes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, welding symbols, and erection details
  • Experience managing field crews, shop personnel, or construction operations
  • Knowledge of AWS D1.1 and industry safety standards
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and maintain project momentum
  • Hands-on mentality with the ability to work both in the field and in leadership functions
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Welding certifications and equipment operation experience are a plus
