Grand Rapids, MI

Job description

Wolverine Construction, formerly Wolverine Building Group is recognized nationally as a leader in the construction industry. We specialize in industrial, multi-unit residential, healthcare, office, retail, and restaurant construction. We provide quality building solutions through integrity, value and craftsmanship and are a growth company of nearly 200 employees headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan with locations in Brighton and Lansing, Michigan.

As an organization, we exist to positively impact people and communities.

We’re proud to be consistently recognized as one of the “Best and Brightest Companies to Work For,” a testament to our commitment not only to excellence in construction, but to fostering a workplace where our people can succeed and grow.

We’re looking for a Project Manager II who can independently lead commercial construction projects while operating as a true partner to the client. This role is ideal for someone who understands design-build delivery, brings experience in industrial market segments, and has worked on projects within warehouse, manufacturing, transportation, and office environments.

This isn’t a “keep the trains running” PM role—this is about influencing design, solving problems early, and helping shape projects before they become issues in the field.

You’ll work in a design-build environment, alongside in-house architecture and field leadership, giving you more control, better collaboration, and fewer of the typical disconnects that slow projects down.

What You'll Own:
  • Full lifecycle leadership of commercial construction projects—from early design through closeout
  • Direct influence on design decisions, constructability, and value engineering
  • Project financials: budgets, forecasting, change orders, and overall profitability
  • Client relationships—becoming a trusted advisor, not just a project contact
  • Coordination across internal teams (architecture, field, safety) and external partners
  • Running project meetings and driving accountability across all stakeholders
  • Identifying and solving problems early—before they impact schedule or cost
What Makes This Role Different:
  • Design-Build Integration: You’re not reacting to plans—you’re helping shape them
  • Client Exposure: You’ll have direct, meaningful interaction with clients, not filtered communication
  • Real Autonomy: Expected to run projects with minimal oversight—not wait for direction
  • Business Impact: You’re not just delivering projects—you’re helping generate repeat work
  • Project Mix: Strong focus on industrial work, including metal buildings and complex operational environments
What You Bring:
  • 5+ years of experience managing commercial construction projects
  • Experience in design-build environments and working across design + construction teams
  • Background in industrial/manufacturing projects; metal building experience is a strong plus
  • Ability to adjust designs and plans to meet real-world conditions
  • Strong financial ownership—comfortable managing budgets, forecasts, and project performance
  • A client-first mindset with the ability to build trust and long-term relationships
  • Clear, confident communication with clients, subs, and internal teams
  • Proficiency with tools like Procore and Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver’s license
Why This Role:
If you’re looking for a step up—not just in title, but in ownership, influence, and impact—this is that opportunity.
If you’re a skilled project manager with Design-Build and Industrial experience, passionate about delivering exceptional projects and fostering strong teams, we’d love to hear from you.

Joining our collaborative work environment provides opportunities for advancement, competitive wages, and great benefits including:
• Low-cost medical insurance options, including a HDHP with HSA match
• Dental, vision, basic life, voluntary life, short- and long-term disability insurance
• 401(k) retirement plan with generous employer match
• Company holidays, parental leave, and paid time off
• Profit-sharing / performance-based bonus
• Personal growth opportunities through training and education; tuition reimbursement
• Opportunities to engage in community involvement and paid volunteer time
