Grant Writer [Contract-Based]

CorpsAfrica

Job description

About CorpsAfrica

CorpsAfrica was founded in 2011 by former Peace Corps Volunteer Liz Fanning after young Africans asked how they could become Peace Corps Volunteers to serve their own country. She had to tell them that the program was open only to Americans, so she created CorpsAfrica, an NGO that recruits and trains young Africans to live and serve in rural communities, listening to the people and facilitating community-led development projects.
Since launching its first Volunteer cohort in Morocco in 2013, CorpsAfrica has expanded to 11 African countries. More than 1,700 Volunteers have completed service, partnering with communities to implement small-scale high-impact projects that are identified by local people, improving the lives of nearly one million people across the continent. Well-qualified candidates should be able to manage multiple priorities independently while delivering accurate, timely, and compelling donor materials.

 Scope of Work

The contractor will:

Grants Prospecting and Reporting System
  • Support and utilize established organizational systems to track grant prospecting, active pipelines, and upcoming reporting schedules.
  • Maintain accurate system records to track proposal status, submission schedules, and compliance deadlines.
Proposal and Report Drafting
  • Draft, edit, and refine high-quality grant proposals, concept notes, and donor reports tailored specifically to funder guidelines and CorpsAfrica's strategic priorities.
  • Translate complex program impact and field data into clear, compelling, donor-ready narratives.
  • Ensure all tailored content meets strict funder compliance and structural requirements.
Funding Research and Pipeline Management
  • Conduct comprehensive research to discover new institutional, corporate, and foundation funding streams.
  • Maintain and expand the foundation proposal pipeline.
  • Support country office Philanthropy Officers with prospecting, tracking, and proposal documentation.
Grants Planning and Tracking
  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership to design, implement, and monitor milestones within CorpsAfrica’s annual grants management plan.
  • Monitor progress toward planned targets and regularly report progress and status updates.
Deliverables

Timelines will be agreed at the start of the engagement. The contractor will be expected to produce the following.

  1. Submission-ready, compelling proposals and donor reports that satisfy all strict funder compliance and structural requirements.
  2. Provide regular, documented pipeline status updates to support tracking upcoming deadlines and active funding opportunities.
  3. Documented grant prospect research profiles identifying viable institutional, corporate, and foundation funding sources.
  4. Milestone progress updates aligned with CorpsAfrica's annual grants management plan.
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
  • Proven experience in grant writing, research, and grant lifecycle management.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to track multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate program impact into donor-ready content.
  • Experience supporting a dispersed team across multiple countries and demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, prioritizing tasks effectively while delivering high-quality proposals and reports on time.
Preferred:
  • Familiarity with grant management software or CRM systems.
  • Working knowledge of international development funding mechanisms and sub-Saharan African operating contexts.
  • Working proficiency in French, given CorpsAfrica's Francophone operations.
Reporting and Working Arrangements

The contractor will report directly to the Fundraising Lead and will coordinate day-to-day with the GSO Fundraising team and members of senior management as necessary.

This is a remote engagement. The contractor will participate in a kickoff meeting to agree on priorities and pipeline tracking processes, followed by regular check-ins and availability for scheduled grant milestones. The grants office is a growing department within CorpsAfrica’s fundraising team. There is both flexibility and room for growth in the position.
