POSITION INFORMATION City of Lathrop Recreation Leader (Part-time, At-will) The current recruitment is to fill vacancies in the Sports Division. The Recreation Leader can be used to fill any division within the department. If an eligibility list is created it may be used to fill a vacancy in the following divisions: Youth and Development, Sports, Facilities and Office Support.

The Position The Recreation Leader is the entry level support class responsible for providing support to recreation staff for the implementation of a wide variety of recreation programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate high energy, dependability, attentiveness and the ability to multitask. About Lathrop Incorporated in 1989, the City of Lathrop is located in the Northern San Joaquin Valley and sits east and west of the San Joaquin River.

Interstate 5, Interstate 205, and State Route 120 intersect within the city. We are located approximately 70 miles east of San Francisco and 70 miles south of Sacramento. Monterey, Santa Cruz, Napa Valley, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains are all located within 2 hours of Lathrop.

Lathrop is centrally located within a 30-minute commute of Tracy, Manteca, Stockton, Ripon, Lodi, Modesto, and Livermore. Lathrop's population as of January 1, 2025, reported by the State of California Department of Finance, is 38,596. Additionally, the City of Lathrop made headlines in 2021, 2022, 2023 , 2024 and 2025 as one of Northern California's fastest-growing communities.

In 2024, Lathrop was reported to be the 5th fastest growing city in the country. With the continued growth in the residential communities, our population is anticipated to reach approximately 70,000. Supervision Exercised/Received Receives general supervision from a Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Coordinator.

May receive lead and/or functional supervision from a Senior Recreation Leader. Incumbents may be required to routinely assist supervision of programs or facilities. Work Schedule: Monday- Friday with work hours between 4:00p.m. - 9:30p.m. and weekends between the hours of 8:00a.m.- 9:00p.m

(Up to 18 hours per week). EXPERIENCE AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS Education and/or Experience Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Recreation Leader. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of one year of experience implementing recreation programs or events, and a high school diploma or equivalent.

OTHER INFORMATION Physical Working Conditions Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading written reports and work related documents.

Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold.
