About the Position

A privately owned 800+ acre ranch and wildlife property located on the scenic Willow City Loop in Gillespie County, Texas, is seeking a dependable Assistant Ranch Hand / Ranch Maintenance Assistant to support the Ranch Manager with routine property maintenance, animal care, equipment operation, and general ranch upkeep.

The ranch is home to white-tailed deer, exotic game, horses, longhorn cattle, and a ranch dog. This is a hands-on support position for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in quality work, and appreciates the responsibility that comes with caring for a well-maintained ranch property.

Because housing is not provided and scheduled weekend responsibilities are part of the position, candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Willow City, Texas.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Ranch Manager with daily ranch operations and property upkeep
  • Help support routine ranch property maintenance, including upkeep of pastures, grounds, roads, trails, gates, and common areas
  • Inspect fencing and assist with routine minor repairs using appropriate tools and established procedures
  • Assist with routine ranch animal and wildlife care, including feeding horses, longhorn cattle, and the ranch dog, filling wildlife feeders, and performing basic property checks
  • Safely operate ranch equipment used for routine property maintenance and ranch operations
  • Perform basic operator-level equipment upkeep, including inspections, cleaning, fueling, and routine maintenance tasks
  • Assist with light mowing, trimming, and vegetation management
  • Help maintain ranch buildings, structures, tools, and equipment
  • Complete seasonal projects and other duties as assigned based on ranch needs

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of ranch or farm experience required; related experience in landscaping, construction, property maintenance, or similar outdoor work may be considered.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license required
  • Experience operating tractors, skid steers, zero-turn mowers, UTVs, or similar equipment is a plus
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and rural terrain
  • Ability to safely perform physical tasks, including occasional lifting and carrying materials up to approximately 50 pounds
  • Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to take pride in quality work
  • Able to work independently after receiving direction
  • Willingness to learn ranch operations, equipment, and property management practices
  • Available for scheduled weekend animal care responsibilities on a rotating basis, typically every other weekend
  • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the ranch
