Job description

HGA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Ruston, Louisiana office location to lead and/or assist in the development and execution of mechanical engineering for assigned projects. This position is responsible for the preparation and review of calculations, design drawings, and engineering documents, and works directly with Designers in the development of 3D graphic modeling. The Senior Mechanical Engineer supports construction and procurement activities, coordinates with multi-discipline teams, and is accountable for the content, accuracy, and quality of final design deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize initial design and give guidance to lead a team of Engineers and Designer / Draftsmen during preliminary design.
  • Provide estimates of engineering manpower effort required for the assigned jobs led and provide accurate manpower planning and tracking data during the duration of the project.
  • Provide detail mechanical design of complex facilities and give guidance to lead a team of Engineers and Designers / Draftsmen.
  • Performs various design calculations, including, but not limited to: Hydraulic Calculations (Pump Sizing, Line Sizing, etc.), Stress Analysis, Wall Thickness Calculations, & Piping Specifications, & Equipment Sizing.
  • Generates equipment specifications and data sheets, prepares inquiry packages, completes technical/commercial bid evaluations, generates purchase requisitions, and reviews vendor drawings / calculations. This would also include procurement for bills of material take-offs such as pipe, fittings, and valves.
  • Perform checking of complex facilities.
  • Work with Mechanical Design Lead to maintain project schedule by providing accurate and timely information.
  • Responsible for the content and accuracy of the final design documents.
  • Perform initial field investigations to determine optimum equipment layout, facility operations and safety criteria.
  • Support Mechanical Design Lead in maintaining budget, schedule, and adherence to the agreed to scope of work.
  • Participate in multi-discipline Engineering, Design / Drafting package squad checks.
  • Perform vendor data review of equipment and components in their assigned area.
  • Support Mechanical Design Lead in maintaining a needs list of design criteria to support completion of their assigned area.
  • Coordinate with Project Management and multi-discipline Engineering, Design / Drafting on assigned projects.
  • Provides and/or assists with providing mentored experience to junior Engineers and Design / Drafting.
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. of Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited university/college in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10 - 15+ years of experience in fields strongly related to design engineering and equipment specifications.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices, design details, international codes and standards, procedures, and specifications.
  • Experience with PFDs, P&IDs; and Piping Codes is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the Oil & Gas, Refinery, or Chemical Industry field is required. (Experience within the Natural Gas Midstream Industry is preferred)
  • Experience with a consulting engineering firm preferred.
  • Candidates must not require sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in MS Windows, MS outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, Bluebeam Revu, CAESAR II, PIPE-FLO, AFT Arrow, AutoCAD, CADWorx, and Navisworks is desired. (Pipe stress analysis experience with CAESAR II software is preferred).
  • Candidate must be located within daily commuting distance of the HGA office in Ruston, LA. (Ruston, LA office location is preferred location; Other locations may be considered)
  • Professional Engineering registration by examination is preferred; ability and willingness to pursue licensure is required.
