Summary

A commercial HVAC mechanical contractor is seeking a Project Engineer to support the delivery of commercial and healthcare mechanical construction projects. The company specializes in HVAC and sheet metal work, with experience that includes commercial tenant improvements, healthcare renovations, VRF systems, ductwork, and mechanical piping.

This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in mechanical construction project management, working directly with Project Managers and field teams while gaining experience in project controls, procurement, change orders, scheduling, and overall HVAC project execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Project Managers on commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects
  • Manage and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, and project scopes
  • Coordinate HVAC equipment, ductwork, sheet metal, and mechanical piping requirements
  • Assist with material and equipment procurement and maintain procurement tracking
  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, field crews, and General Contractors
  • Support project setup, document control, and project closeout
  • Assist with cost tracking, change order pricing, forecasting, and project financial reporting
  • Track project schedules, equipment deliveries, and critical project milestones
  • Work closely with field leadership to resolve coordination and constructability issues
  • Participate in project meetings and communicate updates to internal and external teams
  • Assist Project Managers with labor tracking, cash-flow analysis, and overall project controls
  • Support punch lists, commissioning, turnover documentation, and final closeout

Requirements
  • 1–5+ years of experience in HVAC, mechanical construction, or commercial construction
  • Experience as a Project Engineer, Mechanical Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar role preferred
  • Commercial HVAC experience strongly preferred
  • Understanding of sheet metal, ductwork, HVAC equipment, and mechanical systems
  • Mechanical piping experience is a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, and project documentation
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
