About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established and highly respected professional services organization based in Southern Marin County, is seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller to join their collaborative accounting and finance team. This position is being added as part of a long-term succession plan, supporting a Controller who has been with the organization for 25+ years.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys being deeply involved in day-to-day accounting operations while also contributing to strategic financial oversight and process improvement initiatives. Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will oversee key accounting functions across a multi-entity environment and help lead an accounting team of professionals. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to operate effectively in a hands-on, detail-oriented role. Experience working within an ERP system is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing daily accounting operations within a multi-entity environment
  • Supervise and support accounting staff across payroll, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger functions
  • Review monthly and year-end financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting activities
  • Coordinate and assist with external audits and audit preparation
  • Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal controls
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis initiatives
  • Maintain and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies
  • Partner closely with leadership on financial reporting, operational initiatives, and strategic projects
  • Provide mentorship, training, and leadership support to the accounting team

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, ideally within a multi-entity environment
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, payroll, and audit support
  • Experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff
  • Experience working with ERP strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Hands-on mentality with the ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment
