Bancroft Construction is looking for a full-time Project Accountant.

Position Summary

The Project Accountant will support the financial and administrative management of projects performed for Bancroft’s Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) client(s). This role is responsible for project setup, billing coordination, cost tracking, contract compliance, reporting, and financial support throughout the project lifecycle. The Project Accountant will work closely with Operations, Project Managers, Accounting, and the client to ensure accurate financial reporting, timely invoicing, and strong project controls.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain projects within accounting and project management systems.
  • Review contracts, purchase orders, and billing requirements to ensure compliance with client expectations.
  • Prepare and submit client invoices, pay applications, backup documentation, and billing packages.
  • Monitor project budgets, committed costs, change orders, and forecasted costs.
  • Track project labor, subcontractor costs, equipment, and expenses against budgets.
  • Assist Project Managers with monthly financial reviews and project forecasting.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable and Payroll to ensure proper project coding and cost allocation.
  • Review subcontractor and vendor invoices for accuracy and contract compliance.
  • Support collections efforts by tracking outstanding invoices and assisting with client follow-up.
  • Generate and distribute project financial reports, WIP reports, and cost analysis summaries.
  • Maintain organized project financial records and documentation.
  • Assist with audits, lien waivers, certified payroll, or client-required reporting as needed.
  • Partner with Operations and Accounting teams to improve processes and maintain data accuracy.
  • Support special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of project accounting, construction accounting, or related financial administration experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting construction, engineering, service, or technical projects strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of project billing, job costing, contract administration, and financial reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/project management software.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, Procore, or similar systems preferred.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
