Job Summary/Basic Function:
Wright State University is inviting applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Chemistry, one with research expertise in biochemistry and another in polymer chemistry to begin on August 1, 2027. The successful candidates are expected to establish fundamental and applied research in areas including but not limited to (i) bio-directed synthesis of small molecules, precursors, polymers, or biofilm-based materials (ii) bio-based or polymer-based self-healing composites, (iii) polymer grafted nanoparticle assemblies, or (iv) polymers or biomaterials with properties such as additive manufacturing compatibility, thermal stability, high sensing capability, or resilience to extreme environments.
The successful candidates will join a dedicated faculty and build new directions in the Chemistry B.S. and M.S. programs and interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs. Expectations include establishing a highly competitive research program and directing research of undergraduate and graduate students. They will support undergraduate and graduate instruction in their respective areas of expertise as well as teach first year and second year chemistry classes.
Wright State is a comprehensive, medium-sized regional university focused on student success while emphasizing experiential learning. The proximity of the campus to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base/Air Force Research Laboratory fosters research collaborations and provides experiential learning opportunities for students. Faculty development is critical for student success, and the university offers support for teaching, grant writing, and leadership through training and workshops.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or ABD in chemistry with research emphasis in biochemistry or polymer chemistry
  • Potential to establish and maintain an independent active research program as demonstrated by high quality publications, grant funding, or similar
  • At least a one-year teaching experience in post-secondary level
  • Ph.D. requirements completed at start of appointment

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience at the start of appointment as a postdoctoral researcher or in a related postgraduate position with emphasis in biochemistry or polymer chemistry
  • Documented pedagogical and curricular success at the college level teaching biochemistry or polymer chemistry
