Job description

Position Summary

Nebraska Wesleyan University is seeking a full-time Business Office/HR Generalist who will assist the daily operations of the Business Office and Human Resources (HR) by providing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, HR, and administrative support. This position ensures accurate financial and employee records, maintains compliance with applicable policies and regulations, and interacts closely with individual faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payables and receivables, including invoices, expense reports, check requests, vendor payments and student payments.
  • Maintain vendor records, process 1099s, and support credit card administration and reconciliation.
  • Assist with payroll processing and ensure compliance with payroll regulations.
  • Process new hire paperwork, HRIS updates, employee status changes, and personnel records.
  • Coordinate background checks, I-9 form accuracy, and E-Verify process.
  • Assist with recruiting, job postings, interview coordination, and maintaining job descriptions.
  • Support administration of employee benefits, leave programs, workers' compensation, and compliance reporting.
  • Maintain HR policies, employee files, and required documentation.
  • Respond to employee, vendor, and departmental questions regarding payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and HR processes.
  • Perform system and file audits to ensure data accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide front office support, answer phones, assist visitors, and perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in human resources, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, business office operations, or a related administrative role.
  • Working knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, HR practices, and applicable employment and tax regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education or a non-profit organization.
  • Familiarity with ERP, HRIS, or integrated financial systems.
