Job description

Student Writing Assistant
The Student Writing Assistant supports the Writing Services team through research, content organization, editorial support and proposal production assistance. This role helps maintain internal writing resources and contributes to the development of donor- and stakeholder-facing materials that support philanthropic initiatives across ASU Enterprise Partners and Arizona State University.
This position is ideal for a student interested in writing, communications, nonprofit development, research, higher education or strategic storytelling.
What you'll do
  • Build repositories of collateral materials and archive completed deliverables for future reference and institutional knowledge sharing.
  • Coordinate and manage writing, discovery and project files to support editorial workflows and development of case statements, proposals and other advancement materials.
  • Support preparation and formatting of written materials within established design templates and brand standards.
  • Assist with proofreading, editing and quality assurance review of deliverables.
  • Conduct background research on prospective donors, philanthropic priorities, industry trends and peer institutions to support writing projects, utilizing confidential files and print, electronic and online resources.
  • Stay up to date on current events, regularly monitor news stories, press releases, and other online sources and communicate pertinent information to the team.
  • Uphold all fundraising and prospect research professional standards and expectations.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, enhance their formal writing skills and contribute to projects that advance ASU's model for a New American University.

What you'll need
  • Strong and collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, writing, and by phone.
  • Ability to take initiative and set priorities while being flexible.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties.
  • Ability to synthesize and organize complex information.
  • Advanced computer skills that include significant knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point), Adobe Creative Suite, and database management.
  • Learning mindset with a willingness to spend time researching a variety of topics.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to ASU Enterprise Partners, university business and confidential prospect information.

Relevant qualifications
  • A current undergraduate or graduate student at Arizona State University.
  • Willing to sign and abide by a confidentiality agreement.

Preferred skills and abilities
  • Ability to commit to working at least two consecutive semesters.
  • Graphic design skills as this position will support in producing presentations, reports and other high level graphic materials to help prospective donors learn more about ASU.
  • An ability to understand dynamic, interrelated concepts and ASU connections to news, events and organizations.
