Job description

Description
The Opportunity:
theSkimm, a part of Everyday Health Consumer, is hiring a New York-based video editor/producer to join our multimedia team - a small, sharp group that moves fast, holds itself to an extremely high editorial bar, and produces content across entertainment, sports, politics, pop culture, news, and health that consistently cuts through.
This role reports into the Director of Video and Audio on the Multimedia team and sits within theSkimm's broader content organization, collaborating closely with editorial, social, and partnerships. You'll work across all of theSkimm's brand properties - @theskimm, @iamwellandgood, @wellplayedbytheskimm, and @skimmshopping (we're looking for someone who contains multitudes).
This is a hybrid role based in New York City. The role could include live event coverage, including occasional evenings and weekends for award shows, premieres, sporting events, and breaking cultural or political moments.
Key Responsibilities:
We're looking for someone who can step in and own the bulk of our day-to-day editing operation. You'll be the in-house engine behind our video output - turning around edits quickly from raw footage the team is already capturing, whether that's a podcast recording, a junket interview, a red carpet moment, an event, or a clip package built from breaking news.
What you'll be doing:
  • Edit and produce a high volume of social-first video content daily, with speed and precision, balancing editorial value with the ability to hook viewers on crowded feeds
  • Watch raw footage from interview shoots, podcast recordings, live events, and junkets to rapidly identify clippable moments and cut them to win on social
  • Edit longer videos for YouTube and O&O channels
  • Support video production efforts including interview ideation, pre-production planning, and assisting with in-office and on-location shoots
  • Create timely video posts by riffing on existing news footage, aligning with high-attention cultural moments as they happen
  • Assist the multimedia team in conceptualizing and executing repeatable franchises and recurring series
  • Cover major live cultural and news events in real time (e.g., award shows, sports championships, political moments, notable finales) with smart, fast, and shareable video content
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with editorial and partnerships teams to align messaging and extend the reach of video content across all theSkimm properties
  • Create static graphics to package and promote video content
Job Qualifications:
  • 2-4 years of experience editing video content at a fast pace for a media brand, publisher, prominent figure, or consumer-facing company
  • A demonstrated ability to edit quickly without sacrificing quality - you can turn raw footage into a polished, postable video on a tight timeline
  • Deep understanding of social platforms, trends, and best practices, with the ability to evolve strategy as platforms shift
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro (After Effects, Photoshop, and/or Figma are a plus)
  • Strong editorial instincts - you know what makes a moment clippable and how to frame it for maximum impact
  • Fluency across pop culture, entertainment, politics, sports, and health/wellness - you don't need to be an expert in all, but should be familiar enough to identify moments that will specifically resonate with theSkimm's audience
  • Comfort appearing in video content when needed
  • Equal creative energy for marketing content as for organic storytelling
  • A collaborative, low-ego working style - you're excited to be part of a team and to make everyone's work shine
