Company Description

VERSANT (Nasdaq: VSNT) is an industry-changing media and entertainment business and home to trusted brands that shape culture, inform audiences, and build lasting connections. It operates across four core markets: political news and opinion, business news and personal finance, golf, and sports and genre entertainment. These markets are served through a powerful portfolio of iconic and innovative brands, including CNBC, MS NOW, USA Network, Golf Channel, Oxygen, E!, SYFY, and Versant’s sports division USA Sports, along with complementary digital assets including Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow and GolfPass.

Job Description

MS NOW is looking for a video podcast editor to join our team. This role will work across the unit to support multiple projects and ensure high technical standards by editing tape across a variety of video platforms (from longform horizonal podcasts to “Reels-style” vertical videos), audio mixing, and filming.

This role starts early in the production process: helping to set up the tech for remote and in-person interviews, troubleshoot connection and technical problems, and positioning talent and guests to ensure the highest quality recording. This person will also ingest audio and video files, plus prepare edit sessions for the team of producers. In the final stages of the process, it is this person’s responsibility to ensure podcasts are beautifully cut and delivered to spec.

The video podcast editor should be extremely detail-oriented, while also knowing how to work fast. It’s essential to have a mastery of advanced video and engineering techniques and be comfortable troubleshooting when something goes wrong. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable collaborating with our audio engineer on pieces, as the majority of MS NOW’s podcasts live on both audio-first and video-first platforms.

An interest in news and politics is vital to the success of this role, as is knowledge of journalistic best practices. The video engineer will report to the Senior Production Manager and collaborate daily with producers and other team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Make final cut of video podcasts from transcript/producer’s rough cut
  • Color correct and optimize footage for digital and broadcast platforms
  • Use Pro Tools and/or Audition to de-noise audio for video cuts, and as the first step in preparing the audio mix for engineers
  • Establish best setup for in-person and remote recordings, plus ensure high quality capture
  • Along with audio engineer(s), make updated equipment suggestions to Production Manager
  • In collaboration with EP & Production Manager, work with graphics department to develop GFX packages for each video podcast
  • Create and order graphics for individual video episodes
  • Upload videos to MPX/YouTube distribution platforms
  • Work with Production Manager to make sure all producers & APs have necessary equipment and technical resources
  • Work with Production Manager to maintain & organize cloud storage folders
  • Work with Production Manager to maintain log of equipment
  • Cut and edit podcast video clips for social media
  • Cut and mix host-read ads
  • Support production on bonus content (such as DTC) when needed
  • Subject to change as role is expected to evolve over time, as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of video & audio production experience
  • Strong grasp of video and audio fundamentals, with a deep technical understanding of codecs, containers, and frame rate
  • High-level technical expertise in Adobe Suite (Premiere Pro), DaVinci Resolve, After Effects, and Descript
  • Experience collaborating on video sessions with a team
  • Strong camera operation knowledge (DSLR, mirrorless, iPhone/prosumer)
  • Color correction fundamentals
  • Experience in Pro Tools and/or Audition
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects under deadline
  • Follows current video and podcasting trends

Desired Qualifications:

  • Collaborative attitude and strong communication skills
  • Self-motivated to continually grow their skillset
  • Livestream/video switching knowledge (TriCaster, VMix)
  • Fast learner
  • Able to take accountability
  • Enjoys solving problems, and does so pro-actively
  • Works well within a large organization
  • Comfortable working on shared projects

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work varied and sometimes unpredictable shifts as news and production needs change.
  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.

Salary Range: $90,000 – $120,000
