Job description

The Opportunity:
Lifehacker is looking for an Associate Technology Editor to join our dynamic, tech-driven team.  The successful candidate should have 3 years of experience. They’ll support the editorial vision of the senior tech editor and edit coverage that gives actionable advice based on what's actually happening in tech, including AI, home automation, VPNs, and/or online privacy and security across Windows, macOS, iPhone, Android, and third-party apps.   
 
The right person is one obsessed with tech and helping others, and is able to help writers explain complicated processes in an understandable and approachable voice.    
 
Lifehacker editors should also have shrewd judgment and a healthy skepticism of common advice.   
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the senior tech editor in setting the strategic editorial policy for our tech beat, commensurate with the company’s overall goals 
  • Help edit tech stories, pitch tech news, and support getting products to review. 
  • Support the senior tech editor in ensuring content across all platforms meets the highest standards of editorial excellence and positions the site as authoritative and agenda-setting 
  • Help the senior editor maintain the site’s editorial voice, anchored in conversational style and skepticism of conventional wisdom 
  • Help guide daily production of the team’s output across distribution channels 
  • Help track and meet targets for growing our reach, loyalty, and engagement
  • Able to leverage audience listening and analytics to create informed content pitches, plans and strategy 
 
Job Qualifications:
  • Have at least 3 years of experience writing about consumer tech, AI, home automation, VPNs, and/or online privacy and security across Windows, macOS, iPhone, Android, and third-party apps;
  • Be capable of turning around stories ranging from news stories to longer features at a quick pace;
  • Be comfortable asserting your opinion and substantiating why your advice is sound;
  • Be comfortable working across teams to meet business goals;
  • Be comfortable working across mediums, including video and podcasts;
  • Be able to leverage audience listening and analytics to make informed content pitches;
  • Be obsessed with tech and helping others, and able to explain complicated processes in an understandable and approachable voice;
  • Have shrewd judgment and a healthy skepticism of common advice.

Compensation Range  
This is a union position covered by the NewsGuild of New York (LINK: https://nyguild.org). The contractual minimum salary for this position is $65,000.
