Ross offers two Summer Intern tracks at our New York Buying Office: Assistant Buyer Intern OR Assistant Planner Intern . Successful applicants will be placed in one of the three tracks.
As an intern, you will work with our expert buying and planning teams. You'll gain hands-on experience and learn what it takes to buy brands customers want at great values . You'll be challenged to generate meaningful business ideas, culminating in a final project which you will present to senior management. Throughout the internship, you'll see the company culture in action while also having fun, building connections, and learning about yourself. The hourly rate for this position is $22.00.
Assistant Buyer Intern
  • Perform the administrative & operational functions supporting a designated buyer. Handle purchase order management, process markdowns, write orders, and administer changes and cancellations. Communicate internally and externally to ensure key shipments are delivered and processed.

  • Analyze and interpret business issues as directed by supervisor, including the monitoring of regional merchandise reports, learning of Open-to-Buy and stock analysis.

  • Develop effective relationships with vendors. This includes appropriate level of interaction with vendors to resolve problems and follow up on issues.

  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively utilize the merchandising systems and understand warehouse processes. Includes utilizing systems and preparation of reporting to allow for interpretation of the business.

  • Display product knowledge by sharing information with your buyer after comparison shopping, shopping Ross Stores, and the market.

  • Partners with manager to understand business opportunities by analyzing all reports, resources, and systems to begin to interpret statistics/analysis

Pre-Season Region/Class Plans
  • Partners with manager to recommend product flow due to seasonality and customer demographics

  • As a team, reviews Pre-Season region monthly class plans based on key metrics

  • Supports manager in creation of seasonal plans; further learns how to develop plans that are well thought out and support corporate direction

In-Season Region/Class Plans
  • Begins to analyze current business performance to understand future impact to make recommendations to manager

  • Is beginning to understand concepts of recommending which product classes require trending at region and store level
