Purchasing Analyst


Position Summary


We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Purchasing Analyst to support procurement operations within the pharmaceutical industry. This role is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory levels of pharmaceutical products, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), raw materials, excipients, packaging components, and related supplies. The Purchasing Analyst will work closely with Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory, and Vendor partners to ensure uninterrupted product availability, optimize inventory investments, and support business growth.

The ideal candidate will have experience purchasing pharmaceutical products and raw materials, strong vendor management skills, and the ability to analyze inventory trends, forecast demand, and negotiate favorable purchasing agreements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the procurement of pharmaceutical products, active ingredients (APIs), raw materials, excipients, packaging materials, and related supplies.
  • Analyze inventory levels, sales forecasts, historical usage, and market demand to determine purchasing requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with domestic and international suppliers to ensure product availability and competitive pricing.
  • Generate and manage purchase orders, monitor order status, and expedite deliveries when necessary.
  • Evaluate supplier performance, lead times, pricing trends, and service levels.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Operations teams to forecast demand and support inventory planning initiatives.
  • Monitor stock levels and proactively address potential shortages, backorders, and supply chain disruptions.
  • Support contract negotiations and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, pharmaceutical regulations, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, inventory reports, and supplier documentation.
  • Conduct spend analysis and prepare procurement reports for leadership.
  • Assist with supplier qualification, audits, and regulatory documentation as needed.
  • Track market trends, pricing fluctuations, and industry developments impacting pharmaceutical procurement.


Qualifications

  • Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Logistics, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of purchasing, procurement, inventory planning, or supply chain experience within the pharmaceutical, healthcare, life sciences, or related industry.
  • Experience purchasing pharmaceutical products, APIs, raw materials, excipients, or packaging materials.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical supply chain operations and inventory management principles would be a plus.
  • Experience working with ERP systems, inventory management software, and procurement platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FDA-regulated products and pharmaceutical compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of GMP, GDP, and pharmaceutical quality standards.
  • Experience supporting domestic and international sourcing initiatives.
  • APICS, CPSM, or related supply chain certification preferred.
