Job description

Job Title: Assistant Pastor of Children's Ministries


Purpose Statement:

The Assistant Pastor of Children's Ministries oversees, promotes and advocates for the discipleship of the next generation at College Park Church. This pastor does so primarily through providing leadership, direction and shepherding to the various ministries serving children (birth-6th grade) and their families. This pastor also collaborates with other ministry areas to ensure efforts to disciple the next generation are engaging, consistent, effective and ignite a passion in the next generation to follow Jesus. This role serves as the front runner for our children's ministry and serves our families in an important way. The desire for this Pastor should be to joyfully and passionately serve our families, children, and leaders encouraging them towards Christ.

Reports to:

Pastor of Sunday Ministries

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a vision to the church for the effective discipleship of the next generation.
  • Oversee the various ministries represented by Children's Ministries, including: Sunday School (birth-6th), Park Night, Family Discipleship Milestones, Special Events (kidTHINK, Summer Events, etc.), and Events Childcare.
  • Lead Children's Ministries staff team.
  • Create a culture of warmth, energy, and fun surrounding our Children's Ministry.
  • Partner with parents and volunteers, imparting vision for discipling the next generation and equipping them to carry it out themselves.
  • Take a special interest in meeting with and discipling dads.
  • Be an active participant on Sunday mornings and at other Children's Ministries related events.
  • Create resources and discipleship tools related to child discipleship for parents, volunteers, staff, and congregants.
  • Ensure all content under the care of Children's Ministries (curriculum, books, training materials) accords with sound doctrine and aligns with vision of College Park Church and Children's Ministries.
  • Participate in various cross-departmental teams to ensure Children's Ministries and its vision for discipleship aligns with other staff teams.
  • Teach in various settings on the topic of parenting and child discipleship.
  • Conduct Child Dedications.
  • Maintain familiarity with resources, models, and philosophies related to children and family ministry.
  • Participate on the Sunday Ministries Team, partnering with Student, Guest Services, and Events teams to strengthen the partnership between the church and parents to nurture the faith of children and students.
  • Serve on the pastoral team. Collaborate with other pastors to shepherd the flock of College Park Church. Participate in elder meetings, accountability groups, and special projects as assigned.
  • Other pastoral duties as assigned, including occasional teaching, preaching, writing, and counseling.

Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2-5 years experience in a ministry setting required
  • Advanced ministry degree and/or ordination preferred
  • Clear commitment to the authority of the Word and the Pre-eminence of Jesus
  • Able to accurately handle the Word and to teach in various settings
  • Demonstrated ability to disciple and train Christ-followers towards maturity in Christ
  • Passionate about Children's ministry and able to bring joy to the ministry
  • Effective at shepherding and overseeing leaders at multiple levels
  • Knowledge and experience regarding ministry to children and families
  • Ability to recruit, develop and shepherd lay leaders
  • Excited about the next generation and passionate about engaging with parents, leaders, children and volunteers
  • Able to manage the demands of multiple layers of leaders while wearing multiple ministry hats
  • Ability to collaborate with ministry leaders across the landscape of the church

Work Schedule

  • This is a full-time, exempt role totaling 40+ hours weekly, Sunday-Thursday
