Job Summary:
Finance and Accounting Analyst provides financial support for the academic and research missions of the University, assists in developing and monitoring operating budgets for accuracy, control and compliance, engages with education and research leadership in strategic and financial planning, and assists finance leadership with current and anticipated changes to financial accounting and budgeting systems.
Education & Experience
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of work experience that includes accounting or finance
Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required:
N/A
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in accounting, business, or healthcare administration strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of standard accounting principles, concepts, and procedures. Knowledge of budget planning and monitoring and financial analysis. Requires excellent communication and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Attention to detail with excellent accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Analytical skills to identify and comprehend opportunities for financial and operational improvement through data analysis and interpretation.
Responsibilities:
  • Support the implementation, presentation and ongoing management of the capital, operating, statistical & personnel budgets for the academics and research missions.
  • Prepare, examine, and analyze financial forecasts, including projected revenue and expenses
  • Analyze financial reports to ensure revenue and expense conform to budget standards
  • Interpret and work with financial data, including financial statements, written financial policies and regulations
  • Assist leaders in academic and research units in understanding and interpreting financial data
  • Remain up to date with industry issues and developments with may have direct impact on the department or the organization as a whole
  • Learn and assist in implementing a new Financial Planning/Reporting/Decision Support application. Learn the details of the application and be able to configure the application to UMMC needs.
