Job description

Landscape Designer II

Founded in 1973, DJ&A is a multidisciplinary professional services consulting firm with office locations across the United States. Our team of professionals work across the country to deliver a diverse range of engineering, environmental, survey, mapping, landscape architecture, and planning projects for federal, state, local, and private clientele.

DJ&A is seeking a Landscape Designer II to join our growing landscape architecture team. This position supports landscape architecture and site development projects, with an emphasis on producing high-quality graphics, 3D renderings, and visualization deliverables that bring design concepts to life for clients, stakeholders, and the public. This is a great opportunity for an early-career landscape architecture professional with strong design and visualization skills who is eager to grow within a collaborative, mentorship-driven team.

Please note: A portfolio (PDF or link) showcasing your design, graphic, and 3D visualization work — Lumion renderings in particular — is required for consideration.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Project Support & Design
  • Support landscape architecture and other site development projects across planning, design, and construction, including site layout, planting plans, grading concepts, and hardscape details.
  • Assist in preparing landscape plans, exhibits, specifications, and cost estimates under the guidance of senior landscape architects.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary internal teams and external consultants and contribute to QA/QC reviews to help ensure accurate, high-quality deliverables.
  • Develop high-quality graphics for public input and presentations.
Visualization & Graphics
  • Develop high-quality 3D renderings, animations, and visual simulations using Lumion, or other software, to communicate design concepts to clients, stakeholders, and review boards.
  • Produce compelling graphics, illustrative plans, and presentation materials for proposals, public meetings, and client presentations.
  • Translate design intent from senior landscape architects and civil engineers into clear, visually engaging deliverables, staying current with visualization software and rendering technique
The Team
  • You would be joining a growing team of three other landscape architects and designers located at other locations across the country.
  • Virtual communication, remote staff mentoring, and organization are top priorities for this position.
  • Be the Landscape Architecture voice for a team of multi‑discipline professionals, advocate for the greatest design outcome.
  • Contribute to a respectful, inclusive team culture where people feel supported, challenged, and valued.
Collaboration & Professional Growth
  • Support client engagement by helping prepare materials for meetings and presentations, and collaborate with project managers and senior engineers to refine concepts based on feedback.
  • Participate in internal design reviews and contribute creative ideas to project solutions.
  • Receive mentorship from senior landscape architects to build technical, design, and project management skills, and pursue continued learning toward PLA licensure.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and quality-focused team environment.
Preferred Project Experience:
  • Urban and civic landscape design
  • Parks, trails, and open space planning
  • Streetscape design
  • Site development for public and private clients
  • Creating 3D visualizations, renderings, or animations for design presentations
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from a LAAB‑accredited program (required).
  • 0-5 years of professional landscape architecture experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Lumion 3D or other rendering and visualization software (required); a portfolio is required for consideration.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, SketchUp, and/or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
  • Working toward PLA licensure preferred; candidates pursuing licensure are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time‑management skills, with demonstrated attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, and use computer equipment for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel to project sites, including outdoor environments and construction areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
Salary and Benefits
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including:
    • Medical insurance
    • 401(k) with employer contribution
    • Paid time off and holidays
    • Professional development support, including licensure and training
    • Flexible work schedule
Office Location
  • Missoula or Bozeman, Montana
  • Denver, Colorado
  • South Holland, IL or Frankfort, IL (Chicagoland area)
Who Will Thrive in This Role

You may thrive in this role if you:

  • Enjoy creating compelling visuals and take pride in bringing design concepts to life through renderings and graphics.
  • Are early in your landscape architecture career and eager to build your technical, design, and visualization skills.
  • Care about quality, accuracy, and producing work you're proud of.
  • Enjoy learning through mentorship and collaborating with senior designers.
  • Are organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable managing multiple deliverables.
  • Appreciate a workplace where integrity, collaboration, and people matter as much as technical expertise.
