Marine Electrician
Arnold Transit Company
Position Summary
Arnold Transit Company is seeking an experienced Marine Electrician to join our maintenance team responsible for the inspection, repair, installation, and troubleshooting of electrical systems aboard our fleet of commercial passenger vessels and associated shore-side facilities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of marine electrical systems and be knowledgeable in applicable commercial marine regulations, including U.S. Coast Guard requirements, CFR regulations, ABYC standards, and marine industry best practices. This position plays a critical role in ensuring vessel safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair AC and DC electrical systems aboard commercial passenger vessels.
  • Diagnose electrical faults using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain generators, switchboards, distribution panels, battery systems, charging systems, lighting systems, navigation equipment, and vessel control systems.
  • Perform electrical work on propulsion support systems, pumps, alarms, monitoring equipment, communications systems, and safety equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Ensure all electrical installations and repairs comply with applicable U.S. Coast Guard regulations, ABYC standards, NFPA requirements, and company policies.
  • Support vessel inspections and regulatory audits.
  • Assist with vessel refits, upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
  • Participate in emergency repairs and after-hours callouts when required.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of marine electrical experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial marine electrical systems.
  • Thorough understanding of U.S. Coast Guard regulations and commercial vessel electrical requirements.
  • Knowledge of USCG Regulations, ABYC standards, NFPA standards, and marine industry best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience troubleshooting both AC and DC systems.
  • Familiarity with generators, battery systems, vessel automation, navigation electronics, and marine communication systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on USCG inspected passenger vessels.
  • Experience with vessel refits, repowers, and major electrical upgrades.
  • Familiarity with 46 CFR Subchapter T and K passenger vessel requirements.
  • Marine industry, shipyard, or ferry operation experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, engine rooms, and aboard vessels in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, board vessels, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work extended periods on vessels and docks.
