ABOUT THE POSITION
Civil Designer/Engineer - Land Development | Virginia Beach, VA

In this role, you'll collaborate with talented professionals across diverse disciplines, gaining exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. Responsibilities
  • Work within a team of professionals to develop site/civil engineering plans and specifications for a multitude of projects, including large-scale industrial developments, biotech, institutional, healthcare and residential
  • Support preparation of land development design and permitting documents
  • Draft plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Prepare and review drawings and specifications documenting the systems designed
  • Participate in meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to help understand project requirements and support discussions about design and permitting topics.
  • Support the design team during Construction Administration by assisting with coordination, responding to contractor questions, and helping review submittals and field reports.
  • Assist with managing small, medium and large projects
  • Support the development of new project opportunities by helping prepare proposals, gathering information, and contributing to writing and formatting.

Skills and Attributes
  • Proficient in the following: AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Project, MS Office. ArcGIS skills highly desirable
  • Skills to implement the integrated services approach. Comprehensive understanding of design, details, and construction drawing preparation including site layout, grading, hardscape, drainage, and planting.
  • Knowledge of land development construction including codes and development regulations
  • Knowledge of construction materials and detailing. Detail drawings, sections, and material specifications
  • Experience with green initiative programs and low-impact design (LEED, Envision)
  • Creative and detail-oriented engineer with strong design, research, and analytical skills. Excellent communicator, self-motivated, and collaborative, with a proven ability to multitask, think critically, and grow into leadership roles.

Qualifications
  • BS in Civil Engineering or related degree
  • 1+ years of increasing engineering experience on complex projects
  • EIT Preferred
  • Experience in site layout, grading, utility design and stormwater management
  • Understanding of I-64 and Virginia market preferred
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software required

The full-time annual base salary range for this position, located in New York, NY, is $80,000 to $105,000 if located in Virginia. The base salary offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted salary range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
Annual base salary is one component of VHB's Total Rewards package. In addition to base pay, eligible employees may receive annual incentive compensation bonuses, spot bonuses, and merit-based salary increases, providing opportunities to increase earnings beyond base pay.
