Job Summary:
The Sample Preparation Technician will prepare test samples for chemical analysis, powder characterization testing, metallurgical evaluation, and hardness testing.
This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude and general knowledge of metal cutting, drilling, milling, grinding.
The ideal candidate will be methodical, detail-oriented, and have a passion for standardizing work processes to ensure product quality and consistency.
Key Responsibilities:
โข Safety: Safely perform sample preparation activities always using mandated safety and personal protective equipment. Assist with company initiatives to drive a culture of Safety First. Monitor and ensure compliance with safety protocols in laboratory and manufacturing environments.
โข Sample Preparation: Prepare metal test samples using general industrial and laboratory equipment such wet abrasive saws, drill press, manual mill, grinder/polishers, powder sample splitters, and analytical balances.
โข General Equipment: Ensure all sample preparation equipment is properly maintained and functioning properly, including as-needed, scheduled, and preventive maintenance.
โข Product Issues: Assist in troubleshooting mechanical equipment issues.
โข Procedures: Assist in developing and refining sample preparation processes and procedures.
โข Improvement: Work closely with production and engineering teams to support quality control initiatives and process improvements. Participate in development and research activities by providing testing support and material insights.
โข Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized lab environment, ensuring proper disposal of hazardous materials.
Qualifications:
โข High school diploma or GED
โข 2+ experience years working in a commercial or industrial environment, preferably in a metal manufacturing or industrial setting.
โข Understanding of safety protocols related to equipment operation and laboratory and manufacturing environments.
โข Familiarity with laboratory sample preparation and testing equipment for chemical analysis and materials characterization.
โข Math skills and familiarity with chemistry and metal powder nomenclature and terms.
โข Mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose and address minor equipment issues.
โข Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
โข Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
โข Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a cross-functional team.
Physical Requirements:
โข Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
โข Ability to stand, sit, or work in a laboratory setting for extended periods.
โข Comfortable working with chemicals, heavy machinery, and potentially hazardous materials, following proper safety protocols and wearing appropriate PPE.
