Job description

Responsible for daily operations and quality and quantity of work performed throughout the Histology Lab. Completes established 
competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate from a school of Histotechnology accredited by CAHEA/NAACLS
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Associate's Degree from accredited college/program in a related science.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 2 years experience in a managerial role with fiscal, regulatory and quality
improvement responsibilities
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 3 years managerial experience
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Histologic Technician (HT) from American Society of Clinical
Pathologist (ASCP) or equivalent

Assists in establishing goals and objectives that support overall strategic plans of the facility/Baptist

Monitors the annual department operating and capital budgets
Manages daily operations of assigned department/s
Manages performance of staff
Demonstrates objectivity in decision making, utilizing facts to support decisions

Department/Business Unit Management:
Ensures the accuracy and efficiency of services provided by the department

Ensures personnel maintain a clean and well -organized work area
Meets all required deadlines assigned
Maintains department supply stock levels and orders supplies
Provides technical instruction, training and guidance to technicians and lab assistants in techniques,
instrumentation and organization of work.
Adheres to laboratory and surgery quality control policies, and ensures documentation of all quality
control activities
Differentiates acceptable and unacceptable processing, embedding, cutting and staining of tissue
specimens
Ensures proper handling of all tissue samples/protocols
Identifies problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results and resolves or
immediately reports
Calculates daily tech workload and updates on AP workload TAT
Performs Histology bench work as needed to ensure timely completion of work
Assists with special projects as assigned
Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to clients and patients.
Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
Maintains safe environment
Participates in Performance Improvement activities
