At Boulder Medical Center (BMC), you'll join a collaborative and supportive team, gain exposure to patient care, and strengthen your path toward becoming a healthcare provider-all while serving your local community.
BMC is a local, independent, and physician-owned medical group with over 20 primary and specialty care departments, 90 providers, and 325+ clinical and support professionals. Since our founding by 10 physicians in 1949, we have grown and evolved to meet the needs of Boulder County and beyond.
We currently have clinics located in Boulder (2 locations), Louisville, Longmont, and Erie.
Summary:
Boulder Medical Center (BMC) offers exclusive Medical Assistant internship opportunities to University of Colorado pre-med students. This program is tailored to students in the last 6-18 months of their undergrad program and provides hands-on clinical experience in outpatient care, training in electronic medical records (EMR), qualifies for academic course credit, and prepares students to work as fully trained Medical Assistants.
Interns primarily work in Primary Care settings, including Family Medicine and Internal Medicine, with additional exposure to medical and surgical outpatient clinics.
This internship requires a commitment of 10 hours per week during weekday business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) over a 6-18 month period. Interns have weekends and major holidays off.

Program Overview:
  • Phase I: Master EPIC, one of the most advanced EMR systems in healthcare. Interns focus on reviewing medical records, scanning and documenting diagnostic test results, categorizing progress notes, and more.
  • Phase II: Train as a Medical Assistant (MA). Guided by nurse educators, interns learn essential administrative tasks, how to stock and prepare exam rooms, perform EKGs, and conduct point of care (POC) tests (e.g., urinalysis, pregnancy tests, strep tests, and more).
  • Job Placement (optional): Nurse educators assist interested interns with permanent MA job placement opportunities upon completing the program.
