Job description

Assistant Director of Olympic Sports Performance

This role supports Northwestern University’s Olympic Sports Performance programme, with a specific emphasis on soccer. The post holder is responsible for developing, supervising, and coordinating strength and conditioning programmes for male and female student-athletes, supporting safe and effective exercise execution, carrying out strength testing and evaluation, and collaborating with athletic trainers, coaches, and performance nutrition staff. The role also requires compliance with Northwestern University, Big Ten Conference, College Sports Communicators, and NCAA policies and regulations.

This role appears to align most closely with IQF Level 6, as it involves developing and delivering strength, conditioning, and movement development programmes for student-athletes, conducting testing and evaluation, supervising and coordinating S&C provision for assigned sports, and working collaboratively with sports medicine and performance nutrition staff. The role includes autonomous practitioner responsibility within a high-performance collegiate environment, while still reporting to, and receiving programme review from, the Assistant Athletic Director of Olympic Sports Performance. It contains some Level 7-facing elements, particularly through programme coordination and representation at professional development events, but the advert does not clearly describe primary responsibility for staff leadership, departmental strategy, or the decision quality of other practitioners.

Associated IUSCA IQF Certification

IUSCA IQF Level 6 Accredited International Strength and Conditioning Practitioner (aISCP)

Salary and Role Alignment

Green. The advertised salary appears broadly aligned with an autonomous Level 6 practitioner role in a major NCAA Division I environment, particularly given the full-time salaried structure and benefits package. The role requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, a minimum of two years’ sports performance coaching experience, and CSCS or IUSCA certification before the employment start date. The master’s degree, soccer experience, wearable technology experience, and force plate experience are listed as preferred rather than essential, which helps keep the criteria proportionate. A minor caveat is that the Assistant Director title and programme coordination responsibilities may edge towards Level 7 expectations in some settings, but the salary and criteria appear reasonable for the advertised scope.

This role has been classified by IUSCA based on publicly available information. The classification is intended to support professional transparency and help practitioners and employers understand the relationship between role scope, responsibility, autonomy, qualification expectations, and salary alignment. Applicants should review the original advert before applying.
