Job description

Venable LLP's Nonprofit Organizations Group seeks a paralegal to join the practice in the Washington, D.C. office to assist with multi-state charitable solicitation registration and compliance matters for nonprofits and companies that conduct charitable promotions and other fundraising activities.

The qualified candidate must hold a bachelor's degree. The successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a demonstrated ability to work independently and can handle working on multiple projects covering different aspects of the practice, has good time management skills and excellent attention to detail. This candidate must be highly organized, detail-oriented, a self-starter, and able to juggle multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and track projects while keeping the attorneys apprised of project statuses and deadlines;
  • Provide support to attorneys for cause-related marketing, corporate governance and contract services, joint ventures, affiliations and mergers, certification programs, standard-setting and tort liability, and other overall support for charitable foundations;
  • Assist with preparing clients for federal and nationwide compliance deadlines, preparing and filing various exemption applications for clients, and generally supporting the needs of nonprofit clients as it relates to federal and state level applications, filings, and charitable solicitations;
  • Play a supporting role in these tasks, with the expectation that, over time, the professional will be able to lead aspects of these responsibilities; and
  • Meet the firm's billable hours requirement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Knowledge of charitable solicitation rules, experience with compliance, and state licensure issues a plus, but not required;
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Meticulous attention to detail;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated history of working independently, taking initiative and problem-solving;
  • Strong research abilities;
  • The ability to assess and analyze risk;
  • Effectively prioritize deadlines and tasks and manage multiple time-sensitive projects at once;
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality; and

Committed to work outside of normal business hours, if needed, which may be extensive and include weekends or holidays during certain portions of the year.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $65,000 per year. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of job related factors including, but not limited to, years of related experience, level of education, skills, credentials and certifications, responsibilities and performance.
