JOB POSTING: HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADING COACH

Position: High School Cheerleading Coach Location: Northwestern Regional High School No. 7, Winsted, CT Season: Winter Season 2026-2027 School Year Reports To: Director of Athletics and Student Affairs, Aaron Bunel  Employment Type: Seasonal / Stipend Position:$2,479.00 

Position Summary

Northwestern Regional School District No. 7 is seeking a dedicated Cheerleading Coach to lead the high school cheerleading program organizing, instructing, and supervising student-athletes in cheerleading skills, teamwork, and school spirit, while maintaining a safe environment consistent with district policy and CIAC guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct practices, tryouts, and competitions/performances per the athletic schedule.
  • Teach proper technique, stunting, tumbling, and safety procedures; supervise all practices, games, competitions, and team travel.
  • Enforce CIAC, conference, and district rules, eligibility requirements, and standards of sportsmanship.
  • Communicate professionally with student-athletes, parents/guardians, administration, and the Athletic Director.
  • Maintain uniforms/equipment; monitor academic eligibility; follow district health and safety protocols, including concussion management.
  • Attend required coaches' meetings/trainings and complete rosters, incident reports, and season-end evaluations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required (college coursework/degree preferred); prior coaching, cheerleading, or gymnastics experience preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification and completion of state-mandated coaching education (CIAC/NFHS Fundamentals, Concussion & Sudden Cardiac Arrest training).
  • Successful state/federal criminal background check and fingerprinting per CT law and district policy.
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends per the competition schedule; strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Preferred: experience coaching at the HS/collegiate level, AACCA safety certification, or CIAC competition experience.

Physical Requirements & Compensation

Requires the physical ability to demonstrate and spot skills, stand/move for extended periods, and travel to away events; reasonable accommodations available. Stipend commensurate with experience per the applicable coaching stipend schedule.
