Description
Position Title: Residence Hall Director
Dates of Employment: August 3, 2026 to May 15, 2028
Compensation:
  • Salary of $16,401 (paid bi-weekly)
  • Two-room Suite with Private Bath
  • College Meal Plan (while classes are in session)

Reports to: Director of Residence Life and Student Conduct/AVP for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
Supervises: Student Prefects (5 to 10)
Primary Function: The Residence Hall Director provides leadership and oversight for a residential community, supporting student learning, safety, and engagement outside the classroom. The RHD assists with the day-to-day operations of the residence hall, supervises student staff, responds to student concerns, and supports the implementation of departmental policies and programs that promote a positive living-learning environment.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree, Preference given to candidates currently enrolled in a graduate program.
Experience: Previous paraprofessional or professional experience in residence life.
Essential duties:
  1. Assist with the overall management and daily operations of an assigned residence hall or residential area.
  2. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate student staff (e.g., Prefects), including facilitating regular meetings and training.
  3. Uphold and articulate college policies and protocol relating to student conduct and housing.
  4. Adjudicate assigned violations of college policy and monitor the completion of student conduct sanctions.
  5. Serve in an on-call rotation to respond to student emergencies, crises, and policy violations in and outside of the regular workday.
  6. Provide guidance and support to students regarding academic, personal, and community concerns, making referrals to campus resources as appropriate.
  7. Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful residential community consistent with Benedictine values.
  8. Assist with the planning and implementation of educational and community-building programs within the residence hall.
  9. Support occupancy management efforts, including check-in/check-out processes and room changes.
  10. Collaborate with campus partners such as Campus Safety, Facilities, Counseling Services, Student Conduct, and Title IX.
  11. Participate in residence life training, staff development, recruitment and departmental meetings as scheduled.
  12. Assist with administrative tasks, including office hours, incident reporting, assessment, and data tracking.
  13. Participate in various residence life functions such as opening and closing of assigned residence hall, housing selection process, orientation, open houses, etc.
  14. Participates in committee work for the department, division and/or College as deemed appropriate by the Director of Residence Life & Student Conduct and/or Sr. Director of Student Affairs.
  15. Maintain adequate visibility within the residence hall.

Special challenges and environment: This is a live-in position with a flexible 20 hour work schedule that includes additional evening and weekend obligations consistent with the academic calendar and student lifestyle, must be available in and outside of normal working hours for consultations and emergencies; regular walking and stairs are required.
