How you'll make an impact:

The Little Planet Assistant Designerwill support the design of our sustainable product, shaping the future of this emerging brand. Working closely with the design team and cross-functional partners, this role will help deliver fresh, innovative creative while playing an integral part in the technical execution of design.

Little Planet is a small but growing team, requiring strong collaboration skills and flexibility. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, while also being willing to contribute in different capacities to meet our evolving needs. This is a hands-on creative position, ideal for someone who is passionate about children's apparel, sustainability, storytelling, and making a difference in the childrenswear space.

This role is based in our Buckhead office, (4-5 days/week in-office).

50% Design Process & Communication
  • Support facilitation for all aspects of design: from initial concept to final development of product
  • Participate in all aspects of daily follow up with internal business partner, i.e. email communication and meetings
  • Learn the creative process and observe the design leaders in the day-to-day
  • Prepare and update line sheets in both illustrator and miro, help maintain product details in miro and manage design sketches
  • Assist with pre-production art (review prints, graphic scale & placements, validate color chips and line sheets/BOM with supervisor and own complete process for their portion of the line)
  • Participate in fit process and update design sketches based on feedback during fittings
  • Build and update color swatch palettes as needed for the team
  • Regularly communicate progress with cross functional partners
  • Responsible for editing product change comments throughout design review process

30% Product line Development

  • Sketch technical drawings in illustrator, set up paperwork communicate design intent and maintain clear communication with technical design partners, with direction from supervisor
  • Help support design presentations with color palettes, mood boards, samples and printouts of the line
  • Collaborate with team on design work in Illustrator, working up to Independently design at least one program or a portion of a program with Supervisor's mentorship
20% Creative Concept
  • Research and present design and creative concepts that demonstrate innovative, brand-right creative (silos, trim & details, color, print & graphic design direction to supervisor and peers)
  • Help assemble concept boards for formal presentations, gathering inspiration, aiding with building of concept books, preparing samples and dressing of mannequins.
  • Set up and request design and proto samples from Product Development & Sourcing team

Must have:

  • Must have a portfolio
  • Strong sense of color and aesthetic ability, translating concepts into visually compelling design.
  • 1-2 years of experience in the apparel industry
  • Strong Illustrator sketching skills
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator
Preferred skills and experience:
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Has basic knowledge of garment construction, silhouettes, color ways, sewing techniques, fabrication and trim
  • Strong attention to detail, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, creative, and team-oriented environment
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator
  • Working knowledge of Miro
  • Working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management tool
