Job description

Position Type: Full Time, Exempt (40 hours/week, Monday-Friday with occasional weekends required)

Direct Supervisor: Communications Director

Position Summary: The Graphic Designer serves as a visual storyteller for Shades Mountain Baptist Church by transforming ministry goals into compelling creative communications that help people engage with the gospel. This role is responsible for designing and producing high-quality print, digital, and environmental communication materials while protecting and strengthening the church's visual identity. Working closely with the Communications Director, Art Director, and ministry leaders, the Graphic Designer manages projects from concept through production, ensuring every piece of communication reflects excellence, clarity, and the mission of Shades Mountain Baptist Church.

Required Qualifications:

  • Committed and growing follower of Jesus Christ with a passion for using creativity to further the gospel
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in graphic design across print and digital media
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and familiarity with creative workflows
  • Excellent visual design, typography, layout, and brand application skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong project and time management abilities
  • Collaborative team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church or willing and able to become a member

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing for web, social media, and digital communications
  • Experience working with print vendors and production processes
  • Experience serving on a communications, creative, or ministry team

Responsibilities:

  • Branding & Design
    • Collaborate with ministry teams to design digital, print, and environmental communication materials that effectively support ministry initiatives and reflect the church’s mission
    • Maintain and champion consistent brand standards and visual identity across all communication channels
    • Collaborate with the Art Director throughout the creative process, incorporating feedback and ensuring alignment with established creative standards
  • Production & Project Management
    • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously from concept to completion while balancing priorities, deadlines, and production requirements
    • Coordinate with print vendors to ensure quality, accuracy, and cost-effective production
    • Maintain organized digital asset libraries and project files
    • Assist with installation of environmental graphics and visual displays as needed
    • Maintain operational knowledge of print production equipment and best practices
    • Train and support church staff on brand guidelines, approved design tools, and basic print production processes

Perform other related duties that may benefit the Communications Team or the church as directed by the Communications Director or Executive leadership.
