Job description

The primary role of the Estimator is to work in conjunction with the other members of the Estimating Department, and other departments as required, to develop project estimates, budgets, schedules and proposal documents based on the latest available costing methodology and data. This will be done under the supervision of the Chief Estimator. These estimates, budgets, schedules and proposal documents are used for winning new work as well as to support the execution of work.

Education: 
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Mathematics or Business Administration
 

Work Experience:
2+ Years of post-graduate field and/or office based project accounting, estimating or controls experience related to underground construction projects or operational mining environment, with knowledge of project 
management, construction contracts, reporting and data manipulation 
 

Knowledge Required: 
1. Good understanding of general business interfaces and/or processes as they related to human resources, 
procurement, engineering, construction operations, accounting and administration departments 
2. Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to facilitate team commitment
3. Supervision of subordinate staff 
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills (internally and externally) and demonstrated ability to 
work with Redpath management and clients 
5. Manage estimating and related project services on projects
6. Comprehensive computer skills including Microsoft Office, scheduling Software (MS Projects or Primavera) and measurement and estimating software.
 

Other Requirements:
1. Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical. 
2. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. 
3. Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence. 
4. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
5. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. 
6. High level of attention to detail, neatness and accuracy.
7. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

1. Analyze drawings, designs, specifications, and tender documentation to prepare schedules, cost estimates and proposal documents. 
2. Schedule project activities and modify to suit following estimate and project reviews.
3. Apply labor, equipment and material requirements to each estimate under the direction of senior estimating staff.
4. Solicit quotations from vendors and subcontractors. Consult with vendors and specialists to discuss and 
receive input that is relevant to the conditions of the project being bid. 
5. Support the development of performance capabilities with detailed cycle time calculations. Adjust 
theoretical calculations to reflect historical performance. 
6. Interface with other individuals in the organization to obtain their contributions to the methodology 
used, cost estimates and proposal documentation. 
7. Utilize the company's estimating software to compile estimates and resource allocation.
8. Utilize spreadsheet, word processing, scheduling and presentation software. 
9. Support the preparation of all tenders in accordance with the "Redpath Bidding Process". 
10. Work together with the Estimating Staff in meeting the deliverable requirements of all tender submissions to which he/she is assigned. 
11. Prepare backup estimates and store originals & copies as per procedure.
12. Assist and support project management to ensure continuity between tender, construction and project 
completion. 
13. If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements 
to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver's License and acceptable driving record. 
14. Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards. Performs Field Level Risk Assessments.
15. Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe 
and efficient manner.
16. Comply with daily, weekly and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures. 
17. Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information. 
18. Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath's Policies and Procedures as detailed in the 
appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). 
19. Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations. 
20. Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.
