Job Summary

The Fire Watch plays an essential role in maintaining the safety and security of the facility through attentive monitoring and diligent documentation of fire safety records. Working fewer than 30 hours per week, the Fire Watch patrols the facility and active construction areas, ensures that all fire safety protocols are effectively followed, and maintains accurate, organized records in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
This is a temporary, part-time position well suited to a proactive, dependable individual with strong attention to detail and the ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations.

Job Duties

  • Monitoring & Fire Safety
    • Conduct regular patrols of the facility and active construction areas to identify and respond to potential fire hazards.
    • Remain alert and observant throughout each shift, maintaining a proactive approach to fire prevention.
    • Ensure that all fire safety protocols are followed and that fire safety equipment remains accessible and unobstructed. - (Essential)
  • Documentation & Recordkeeping 
    • Review and verify the accuracy of entries in the Fire Watch Log Sheet after each patrol, documenting all observations clearly and comprehensively.
    • Use standardized formats for documentation to maintain consistency and facilitate easy retrieval of information.
    • Organize and maintain all fire safety records on-site for a minimum of two years, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational requirements.
    • Develop and maintain a systematic filing system for ready access to documents during audits or inspections by the Chief Fire Official or other regulatory bodies.

  • Emergency Response 
    • Follow established emergency protocols and respond promptly to fire-related incidents.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and to patrol the facility throughout assigned shifts.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior fire watch, security, or safety-related experience.
Familiarity with fire safety codes and documentation requirements.
Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to remain calm, composed, and decisive in emergency situations.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

  • Environment: Work is performed on-site at the facility and within active construction areas, which may include exposure to variable temperatures, noise, dust, and other construction-related conditions. The position requires a consistent physical presence throughout assigned shifts.
  • Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to patrol the facility on foot; to walk and stand for prolonged periods; to climb stairs and navigate uneven or under-construction areas; to see and hear in order to detect potential hazards and respond to alarms; and to effectively communicate to exchange information.

SALARY

This is a temporary, part-time position with a pay rate of $25.00 per hour, working fewer than 30 hours per week.
