Job description

Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000
Archer Hotel Old Town Alexandria is situated on the renowned King Street Mile in historic Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. This boutique hotel features a charming brick courtyard, a delightful spa and AKB, a neighborhood favorite hotel bar.
LodgeWorks is actively hiring for an Engineering Manager
Who we are
LodgeWorks is a privately held hotel development and management company. While our name isn't on the hotels themselves, our extraordinary culture is at the heart of our 19 hotels - including our award-winning Archer Hotel boutique collection and our portfolio of other great brands with familiar names, such as Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Aloft, and Hampton Inn.
We're thrilled to be considered industry innovators with a rich 40+ year history. Yet, what we are most proud of is the strong family culture we have developed and maintained while growing to 1100+ employees nationwide. At LodgeWorks, hospitality is more than just the industry in which we work; it defines everything we do. Maybe it's because we're grounded in Midwestern hospitality (our home office is in Wichita, Kansas, while our hotels are scattered across the U.S.). Or maybe it's because we actively work to make hospitality (with each other, our guests, our clients and partners) the foundation upon which everything is built.
Job overview
The Engineering Manager is responsible for working alongside the Chief Engineer and helping to manage the Engineering Department and all the hotel maintenance needs, inside and out. This position helps to oversee the day-to-day operations, all maintenance requests and the service and repair of all equipment while supporting the LodgeWorks goals of guest satisfaction, cost control and profitability.
The Engineering Manager also works alongside the team while participating in the LodgeWorks Preventative Maintenance program to ensure that all guest rooms and public spaces meet LodgeWorks/Brand standards, as well as helping with any task the Chief Engineer has assigned.
In addition, the Engineering Manager assists the Chief Engineer with completing frequent safety checks and quarterly checklists with the expectation of being proactive and finding and correcting any would-be issue before it becomes an issue.
Your day-to-day
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with LodgeWorks standards as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain the physical structure and grounds of the hotel property in like-new condition, including landscaping, walkways, pool area and sport courts.
  • Ensure that all maintenance requests are completed in a timely manner, help manage improvement projects and develop preventive maintenance programs.
  • Train and supervise Engineering staff and coordinate scheduling.
  • Handle maintenance items in-house whenever possible, and employ outside vendors rather than endangering self, employees or hotel property.

  • Help manage operation of the engineering department to ensure compliance with company standards, safety rules and health and sanitation regulations.
  • Ensure the mechanical status of property and maintenance equipment.

  • Maintain all compliance standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Participate in all-employee meetings, events and other functions as required by management.
  • Be familiar with all LodgeWorks/Brand policies and hotel rules, as well as hotel terminology.
  • Help implement emergency projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Ensure that pool and spa are in compliance with area health codes.
  • Chair Safety Committee and help coordinate fire drills and the training of all employees on safety procedures.

  • Attend meetings as required by management.
  • Assist with capital improvements for the property.
  • Help to forecast, monitor and control budget components of the maintenance department (labor, inventory, equipment, etc.) to maximize revenue and minimize expenses.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure that adequate supplies are on hand to provide top-quality guest services.
  • Assist in any other task or duties as requested by management.

Who you are
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include compliance with LodgeWorks/Brand dress code and wearing a name tag when working.

  • Nimble and able to adapt to change quickly.
  • An excellent communicator.
  • Understand and have a working ability with HVAC, electrical, plumbing and carpentry.
  • Knowledgeable about applicable Life Safety codes, conduct fire drills and train all staff as appropriate on emergency and safety procedures.
  • Capable of self-supervision and have the ability to manage time accordingly in order to complete the required work.
