Job Summary
Lightpath is seeking an OSP Engineer who will be responsible for supporting the construction of the Lightpath fiber network from an engineering and splicing perspective and other duties related to fiber plant construction. In addition, this role will support plant maintenance, repair and support as it is turned over to plant operations.
The OSP Engineer is a vital part of the Lighpath team. Lightpath has near-term plans to dramatically accelerate expansion and, in doing so, the construction of a new fiber optic plant network. The OSP team is responsible for working with outside contractors to enable the rapid deployment of the plant to enable this expansion, as well turning it over to our customers for use. The OSP Engineer plays a key role in this process.
Responsibilities
  • Play a key role from a conduit, cable and fiber management prospective.
  • Helping with the overall fiber network design with best cost in mind when working with outside engineers that are designing the running line.
  • Engage engineering firm to assist in the low-level and high-level design.
  • Help in the infrastructure ordering process as materials are needed and help support the management of materials using material management vendors in market.
  • Manage engineering contractors to meet proper timeframes and quality of work specifications that meet Lightpath and customer requirements.
  • Ensure all engineering vendors are coordinated with municipalities from a drawing expectation prospective.
  • Help support Lightpath Construction Managers with cable install and splicing crews, provide splicing diagrams and layout timelines and workload to ensure project turnover to customers.
  • Work with the engineering firm to ensure all plant updates have been uploaded into our inventory system and is correct.
  • OSP support on maintenance, repair, and relocation of plant.
  • Working effectively with other people and teams in the organization.
  • Assist in business case development.
  • Perform inventory system audits of the existing plant.
  • Work with other team members in daily weekly meetings to provide updates on engineering efforts required to meet timelines.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • College degree and/or equivalent 3 to 5 yrs experience in similar field.
  • Positive attitude, willingness and eagerness to learn new things, team player.
  • Ability to understand/learn the fiber network construction process.
  • Computer and Microsoft Office knowledge.
  • Understanding basic fiber network designs.
  • Understanding and interpreting fiber and or utility maps.
  • Telecommunications/ fiber network color-code competency.
  • Must have clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass drug test.
  • Ability to work with others on all responsibilities.

Additional Requirements
  • Requires sitting, hearing and talking, occasional standing and walking, and infrequent bending at the waist, twisting of the upper body, kneeling, walking on uneven surfaces, squeezing and crouching.
  • Requires infrequent lifting and carrying 1-40 pounds.
  • Close detail work requires visual acuity.
