ROLE SUMMARY: The Assistant Electrical Estimator assists the Electrical Estimating Team in developing long-term customer relationships with specific sectors of the Electrical market, including contractors, consulting engineers, and owners.
The goal of the Assistant Electrical Estimator is to promote B&I Contractors' services and solutions to support contract customers, "default spec" with consulting engineers, and "trusted advisor" with account owners. With assistance from the Chief Electrical Estimator, Senior Electrical Estimator, Electrical Estimator(s) and others within the company, the Assistant Electrical Estimator will ensure retention of assigned accounts and customers to maximize profit generation from accounts through influence on specifications and project scopes. Achieves quarterly quotas and annual sales goals. Obtains and closes sales monthly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Coordinate bidding activities with the estimating group to focus on combined opportunities.
  • Coordinate between departments to avoid pitfalls between specifications sections.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints and addendums.
  • Prepare and communicate requests for information to clarify project scope during estimating process.
  • Analyze blueprints and technical drawings to count and measure every component needed, such as wire lengths, conduits, fixtures and outlets.
  • Assist in the creation of formal proposals and bid documents to be submitted to clients and general contractors.
  • Input data into specialized estimating software and maintain databases of historical costs to improve future accuracy.
  • Field visits: occasional travel to active construction sites to view job conditions, requiring standard PPE.
  • Contact suppliers and manufacturers to secure competitive quotes for specialized electrical equipment.
  • Help assemble formal proposal packages, bid bonds, and clarifications letters for client submission.
  • Make notes or clarifications on Contract/ field drawing to assist Senior Electrical Estimator, Superintendent and foreman with installation.
  • Attend monthly department meetings if requested.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings as requested.
  • Attend weekly estimating meeting.
  • Attend closeout meetings to review outcome of projects and compare estimates to actual costs.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with potential clients and designers.
  • Attend organization meetings and like activities to promote business for electrical/B&I.
  • The Chief Electrical Estimator may at any time add other responsibilities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Mathematical proficiency.
  • Blueprint Literacy: Ability to read, interpret, and navigate 2D electrical schematics, floor plans, and one-line diagrams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and an aptitude for learning specialized software like Accubid and Bluebeam
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of all electrical products, equipment and installation procedures.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to Detail: Precision is critical, as minor errors in quantity counts can lead to significant financial losses and underbidding.

The minimum requirements for the role are specified and are necessary to succeed in the role's application of tasks.
This position requires the ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis. The employee must be able to perform tasks involving physical labor, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials, tools, or equipment. Manual material handling must be performed in accordance with OSHA safety standards and company policies to minimize risk of injury.
