Primary Purpose:
Teach elementary water safety courses and lead middle school swim/dive/water polo initiatives in addition to coaching as the Head High School Swimming & Assistant Water Polo Coach.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's Degree
Teacher Certification (Preferred)
American Red Cross CPR/AED certification
American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
Obtain CDL license
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Experience:
Experience in coaching competitive swimming/water polo
Experience teaching swim lessons
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Teach and develop student-athletes in the fundamentals, techniques, and strategies of competitive swimming and water polo.
- Serve as the Head Swimming and Water Polo Coach for Legacy High School, providing leadership for all high school aquatic programs.
- Assist with middle school after-school aquatic programs and support the development of student-athletes across all grade levels.
- Support and instruct the Elementary Water Safety and Learn-to-Swim program through direct in-water instruction.
- Collaborate with high school and middle school coaching staff to ensure alignment and continuity of aquatic programs.
- Plan, organize, and oversee all daily swimming and water polo practices, maintaining a safe, inclusive, and educational environment.
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs, including swim instruction, dryland conditioning, stroke development, race strategy, and athlete performance improvement.
- Teach and refine competitive swimming skills, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, starts, turns, finishes, and race tactics.
- Design individualized training plans to accommodate varying skill levels and athlete development needs.
- Organize and submit entries, schedules, and logistics for UIL competitions, swim meets, water polo matches, invitationals, and championship events.
- Coordinate team participation in competitions, including swimmer lineups, relay assignments, warm-up schedules, and meet preparation.
- Schedule and conduct middle school and high school tryouts.
- Develop, maintain, and coordinate team schedules, coaching assignments, travel arrangements, and event logistics in collaboration with district administration.
- Coordinate transportation, travel accommodations, team budgets, meet registrations, roster management, and performance tracking.
- Utilize district-approved athletic software to organize and manage swimming, diving, and water polo programs.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, coaches, administrators, and community stakeholders regarding program expectations, schedules, and athlete development.
- Promote sportsmanship, leadership, discipline, character development, and academic success among student-athletes.
- Ensure compliance with all district policies, UIL regulations, state athletic association requirements, and safety protocols.
- Supervise pool facilities and pool deck activities at all times and maintain emergency action plans and risk management procedures.
- Assist with facility setup, operations, and cleanup before, during, and after practices, competitions, and special events.
- Attend all required district training sessions, professional development activities, in-service programs, athletic department meetings, and aquatic staff meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality of student, staff, and district information.
- Assist with other athletic programs and departmental initiatives as needed.
- Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
