Assistant Director of Compliance and Verification
Veteran Certification Office
Exempt, Regular, Full Time, Pay Grade 2.1
Job Location: Adelphi, Maryland
UMGC seeks an Assistant Director of Compliance and Verification in the Department of Stateside Military Operations (SMO). Reporting to the Director of the Veterans Certification Office (VCO), the Assistant Director will divide responsibilities between the following areas. This position will fulfill duties required to maintain compliance with VA and SAA regulations that govern educational institutions, including activities to satisfy compliance inspections, annual catalog updates, and new site approvals. They will lead a team of Senior Certification Specialists who are tasked with amending enrollments of students receiving Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits in accordance with requirements set forth in Public Law 116-315 directing institutions to follow a two-part certification process, and as a direct result they will conduct quality control activities supporting VCO certification personnel and processes. This is a hybrid position with occasional travel required.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Obtain approval status and maintain compliance with VA regulations that govern educational institutions, including activities to satisfy compliance inspections, annual catalog updates, new site approvals, and reporting of student outcomes to the VA.
  • Serve as one of several School Certifying Officials and Enrollment Manager administrators managing the certification records of students eligible for VA benefits to ensure appropriate payment of those benefits and adherence to requirements set forth in Public Law 116-315 directing institutions to follow a two-part certification process
  • Review student-veteran records and monitor student certifications and enrollments in order to ensure compliance with UMGC policy, Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) & other state approving agency (SAA) guidelines and VA regulations; when directed, serve as the VCO representative either in person or remotely for on-site SAA and VA compliance inspections at various UMGC locations.
  • Collaborate with the Director, VCO and the AD, for Veterans Certifications to design and develop VCO training content based on identified issues in meeting performance or quality metrics, as well as in addressing any issues identified during compliance inspections.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • At least three (3) years of experience working at an institution of higher learning in advising veteran and military students or School Certifying Official role.
  • Experience with People Soft, Salesforce and strong Microsoft office skills; excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills.
  • Experience managing people and/or projects.
  • Experience working with VA's Enrollment Manager.
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
