XCEL NDT is seeking a Mechanical Integrity (MI) Assistant to support Mechanical Integrity inspections by assisting API inspectors and NDE technicians, primarily ultrasonic testing (UT) personnel. This role is responsible for providing field support during inspections, helping with data collection, equipment setup, and general inspection activities in industrial environments.

The MI Assistant position is an entry-level role designed for individuals interested in building experience in mechanical integrity, inspection services, and nondestructive testing. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, dependable, and eager to learn while working alongside experienced inspectors and technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist API inspectors during in-service, shutdown, and turnaround inspections

  • Support UT technicians with equipment setup, surface preparation, and access coordination

  • Help collect thickness readings and inspection data under direct supervision

  • Perform basic measurement, cleaning, and surface prep activities as required

  • Set up scaffolding access, coordinate lifts, and assist with safe access to inspection areas

  • Maintain inspection tools and equipment and ensure proper handling and storage

  • Accurately record field notes and inspection data as directed

  • Follow all XCEL NDT safety policies and site-specific safety requirements

  • Work in industrial environments including refineries, petrochemical plants, and manufacturing facilities

  • Travel to client sites and work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends during outages

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Prior industrial, construction, or inspection support experience preferred

  • Interest in mechanical integrity, inspection, or NDE as a career path

  • Ability to work safely in industrial environments, including climbing, confined spaces, and outdoor conditions

  • Willingness to learn and follow direction from API inspectors and NDE technicians

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet site-specific safety and access requirements
