HIRING A PLUMBING DESIGN DIRECTOR IN HOUSTON

ACCOUNTABILITY

Work closely with Practice Area Leaders to provide technical leadership, mentoring and training to junior designers within the firm. Serve as a resource and contact to assist other design staff at all times. Work closely with Practice Area Leaders in the firm to execute training, mentoring and the development of standards, and interact with clients serving as a representative of the firm.

ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Maintain an Open-Door Policy.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead, motivate and train designers in a mature, thoughtful, professional and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to aide in the development of technical skills of junior designers.
  • Demonstrate empathy, patience, understanding and a genuine interest in others.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Commitment to upholding the core values of DBR.
  • Perform engineering design work to assist a project team as needed.
  • Serve as a technical leader and mentor to other designers throughout the firm.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to determine scope, complexity, planning and scheduling requirements of projects.
  • Serve on the Quality Control team, performing technical design review of DBR projects and communicate openly with project managers and quality control managers to coordinate these efforts.
  • Actively represent the firm in professional organization(s) – ASHRAE, IESNA, ASPE, etc. and deliver industry presentations such as - project and design strategy presentations to client and peers, project interviews, technical presentations at conferences/events and conferences/seminars such as A4LE, TASA, USGBC, etc.
  • Participate in trade organizations and remain informed about industry trends and share technical information and industry trends with our design staff.
  • Assist the Practice Area Leader with the development and implementation of DBR design standards.
  • Travel to other company locations to engage and train staff at those locations, at least once a year per location.
  • Maintain neat and organized work area, which allows efficient access to information required by other team members.
  • Continue learning process by attending seminars and continuing education opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION

  • Licensed Engineer (PE).

TRAVEL (REQUIRED)

  • Visit each office location at least one time per year.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated work performance producing quality designs.
  • Revit and AutoCAD drafting/design experience and knowledge on reading construction drawings.
  • Proficient use of computer for design and BIM drafting. Use of computer programs for engineering analysis and equipment selection.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word) or related software.
  • Proficient in using office equipment (e.g., computer, copier, etc.).
  • Excellent research and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility with workload and project schedules.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact well with clients and co-workers, in the field and the office.
