Job description

The Assistant Cross Country & Track Coach serves as a key member of the Department of Athletics and assists the Head Coach in all aspects of operating successful NCAA Division II programs in menโ€™s cross country, womenโ€™s cross country, and womenโ€™s outdoor track. Responsibilities include recruiting, player development, academic monitoring, game preparation, practice planning, scouting, compliance, and administrative duties while supporting the mission and values of the institution and the athletic department.ย 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist the Head Coach with daily operations of the programs.ย 
  • Conduct individual and group skill development workouts.ย 
  • Assistย with practice planning, film breakdown, andย eventย preparation.ย 
  • Support recruiting effortsย in accordance withย NCAA Division II rules and regulations.ย 
  • Monitor and encourage academic success, personal growth, and student-athlete accountability.ย 
  • Assistย with team travel coordination, equipment management, and operational needs.ย 
  • Drive university-issued vehicles for team travel, recruiting activities, camps, and other program-related responsibilities while adhering to all university transportation policies.ย 
  • Assistย with organizing camps, clinics, community outreach events, and fundraising initiatives.ย 
  • Maintain knowledge of andย comply withย NCAA, conference, and institutional policies and procedures.ย 
  • Serve as a positive representative of the university and department.ย

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelorโ€™s degreeย from an accredited college or university.ย 
  • Previousย participationย experience at the collegiate, high school, orย anotherย competitive level.ย 
  • Valid driverโ€™s license with the ability to be approved toย operateย university-issued vehicles.ย 
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.ย 
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel asย required.ย 
  • Commitment to student-athlete development, academic achievement, and program culture.ย 

Preferred Qualificationsย 

  • Collegiate coaching, operations, or participationย experience.ย 
  • Experience withย athleteย development and skill instruction.ย 
  • Recruiting experience and knowledge of NCAA Division II regulations.ย 
  • Strength and conditioning experience or background in athletic performance training.ย

Physical Demands

The work environment is an athletic and office setting which requires the ability to travel much of the time, work long hours including evenings and weekends, be physically active, able to lift up to 50 pounds, and have the ability to demonstrate specific skills.ย  Ability to travel frequently and work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
