The Assistant General Counsel serves as a key member of the Legal and Risk Management team, providing strategic legal counsel and practical guidance on contracts, subpoenas, employment law, and general litigation. This role partners closely with the General Counsel, People & Culture, Risk Management, and business leaders to proactively identify and mitigate legal risks, manage employment-related disputes, and support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws. The Assistant General Counsel also oversees litigation matters, reviews and drafts complex contracts, and partners with outside counsel.

As Assistant General Counsel, you will:

  • Handle all stages of the response to subpoenas, summonses and third-party information requests, including objections, negotiation of scope and production.
  • Manage document collections, reviews, and legal hold processes.
  • Manage litigation and administrative proceedings brought against the Firm.
  • Draft state-specific settlement and confidentiality agreements.
  • Direct and oversee outside counsel, including litigation strategy, budgeting, case management, and settlement negotiation.
  • Represent the Firm in client disputes.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate client and vendor agreements to protect company interests.
  • Provide legal counsel and strategic guidance on a broad range of legal matters, including employee relations, performance management, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour issues, restrictive covenants, and workforce reductions.
  • Advise People & Culture, Risk Management, and business leaders on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to address legal risks and support strategic business initiatives.

What you bring to the role:

  • 5+ years of experience managing litigation, agency charges, investigations, and dispute resolution.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law, in good standing, in the state of employment, or eligibility for admission by waiver or in-house counsel registration.
  • Prior in-house counsel experience and/or law firm practice required
  • Prior data privacy experience preferred
  • Prior government contracting experience preferred
  • Prior experience practicing labor and employment law preferred
