Job description

Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the accounting, financial reporting, equity administration, and internal control activities of the Company. This position assists in ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and SOX, while contributing to operational excellence across accounting processes. The Assistant Controller will serve as a reliable partner in facilitating efficient communication to support the Company's financial processes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Prepare and review monthly close deliverables including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Assist in the timely and accurate production of internal and external financial statements.
  • Support compliance with U.S. GAAP and assist in monitoring emerging accounting standards (FASB, SEC guidance).
  • Assist in the preparation and review of SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with disclosure requirements.
  • Support the primary liaison relationship with external auditors during quarterly reviews and the annual audit process.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional business and technical teams to support accounting initiatives and operational alignment.
  • Partner with the Sr. Director FP&A to assist in analyzing financial performance and ensuring consistency between reporting and forecasting.
  • Assist in providing technical accounting guidance, with a focus on revenue recognition for product sales and collaboration agreements, research and development expense accounting, inventory valuation, and debt and equity arrangements.
  • Support the drafting, implementation, and maintenance of accounting policies and assist in preparing related accounting position papers and white papers, as required.
  • Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards and participate in cross-functional impact assessments.
  • Serve as a key contact for external auditors, preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with annual financial statement audits and quarterly reviews.
  • Support the maintenance of an effective internal control environment in accordance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance financial reporting processes and optimize the Company's financial systems.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance and supporting equity management system processes and related recordkeeping.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 710 years of related experience.
  • Previous experience in public accounting, public biotech, and/or a pharmaceutical company preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of and ability to apply U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements and relevant accounting and financial concepts, preferably in a publicly traded company environment.
  • Hands-on accounting experience including general month-end close, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Solid understanding of SOX and demonstrated ability to support financial controls and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and an ability to understand broader context.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to balance multiple responsibilities and tasks while meeting deadlines
  • High degree of proactively, and ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction to accomplish objectives
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and outside parties to maximize performance, creativity, problem-solving, and results
