  • Establish clear decision rights, review thresholds, and escalation paths so work is completed at the appropriate level, and Controller review is focused on judgment, risk, and material issues rather than routine transactions.
  • Ensure each client has documented SOPs and checklists, clear owners, defined review gates, and backup coverage; balance engagement scope, portfolio capacity, and team resources, raising risks before service levels or deadlines are affected.

  • Ensure accounting is performed in accordance with GAAP, client accounting policies, and applicable contractual or regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate complete, organized accounting support for audits, tax preparation, lenders, due diligence, and other third-party requests.
  • Direct, coach, and review the work of Assistant Controllers, Accounting Managers, Staff Accountants, and offshore resources; set clear instructions, deadlines, and quality expectations.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client or entity priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency with QuickBooks Online.
  • Strong client-facing communication and executive presence, including the ability to explain accounting issues, risks, and recommendations clearly to non-accountants.
  • Experience working with mid-market and smaller companies.
  • Must have experience handling multiple clients simultaneously.
  • Must be able to follow established processes.
  • Should be creative and effective in communicating with clients.
  • Must be willing to perform hands-on Controller and technical accounting work, including bank reconciliations.
  • Must have experience managing Staff Accountants.
  • Proven ability to lead distributed teams through effective delegation, coaching, review, and accountability without becoming a workflow bottleneck.
  • Comfort with new technologies and automation, including tools such as Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT, and a willingness to adopt them responsibly to improve accounting workflows.
