Job Summary:


The Finance Controller works under the supervision of the Executive Director and manages all financial activities within the agency. This includes but is not limited to: budget preparation; accounts receivable; accounts payable; general ledger management; treasury management; workers' compensation insurance; audit and cost reporting; compliance with all state and federal regulations including HUD regulations and reporting; and Finance Executive Committee/Board of Directors reporting.ย 


The ideal candidate has:

Pay: $75,000 to $85,000/year


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, analyzes, and interprets statistical accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of sustainability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.
  • Supports and evaluates the performance of assigned staff in the functioning of all accounting and finance related missions.
  • Supervises the agency's system of accounts ensuring bookkeeping and records on all company transactions and assets are maintained in accordance with GAAP regulations.
  • Coordinates the preparation of the agency budget and financial forecasts. Initiates and maintains other planning and control procedures and analyzes and reports variances.
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local financial regulations pertaining to the business of the association. This includes facilitating several audit processes and preparation of the 990s.

  • Oversees all internal reports to include the monthly closing process, monthly financial reports, forecasting instruments for use by the Finance Committee and Executive Director.
  • Manages cash and investments and monitors invested fund performances as directed by the Executive Director and/or Board of Directors.
  • Ensures maximum third-party reimbursement through efficient billing and collections operations, effective accounts receivable management, and a thorough understanding of cost reimbursement principles with a primary focus on MaineCare.
  • Protects the assets of the organization through effective internal controls, internal auditing, insurance coverage, and direct supervision of financial operations.
  • Applies depreciation rates to capitalized items and advises Executive Director on desirable operational adjustments due to regulatory revisions.
  • Develops annual HUD budget, monitors actual vs budgeted expenses, and allocates appropriate expenses toward programs.ย 
  • Oversees grant management and restricted donor funds and ensures appropriate usage.ย 

Requirements


Required Experience, Skills, and Abilities:


Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or finance required (MBA, CPA, or CMA preferred).

Five years or more accounting experience preferably with a non-profit organization.

Experience using Windows operating system and Microsoft Office or comparable software.

Experience with regulations regarding DOL, OLSHA, Worker's Compensation, GAAP.
