Job description


Job Summary:
In collaboration with other Field Leadership and under the supervision of the Department Manager, this position will be primarily responsible for overseeing operations, Strategic planning, and personnel management of field staff within the hydronics trades (Mechanical Piping), and coordinating fabrication for the assigned Project(s).
Market Experience:
Extensive market experience and technical knowledge in Mechanical Piping systems. Proven experience on large commercial and industrial projects, including:
  • Semi-Conductors
  • Data Centers
  • Healthcare facilities
  • High-rise buildings
  • Industrial plants
  • Central utility plants (CUPs)
  • Institutional facilities (universities, airports, government buildings)

Experience managing mechanical piping scopes ranging from $5M-$150M+, with the ability to lead field crews of 20-150+ pipefitters, welders, and subcontractors.
Strong understanding of mission-critical and complex project environments, including data centers, Central Utility Plants, healthcare, industrial/process facilities, semiconductor, and advanced manufacturing projects, with direct experience supporting fabrication operations, shop production teams, and prefabrication programs while ensuring quality, productivity, safety, and schedule performance across all phases of fabrication and field installation.
Supervises:
General Forepersons, Forepersons, Journeypersons, Apprentices, Tradespersons, and Trainees.
  • Lead and oversee all hydronics field activities to ensure standards and productivity are met in an effort to achieve company goals
  • Operations
    • Assist direct reports with
      • Resource management
      • Proper team selection including assignment of Forepersons
      • Project execution strategies and scheduling
      • Weekly project progress, health and safety reports
      • Help to provide resolution of issues, challenges and obstacles
      • Execution of QA/QC protocols
      • Implementation of Safety Department's protocols
      • Implementation of corporate policies and procedures
      • Planning for successful project installation
    • Participation in project kick-off, mid-job and wrap-up meetings
    • Attend jobsite meetings and provide input to the GC and PM
    • Review project documents to determine the proper staffing requirements
    • Set goals and expectations for field personnel and detailers. Drive the job!
    • Continuous evaluation of all personnel to ensure performance is at the highest level
    • Approach project with shop fabrication and pre-fabrication assemblies in mind
    • Monitor and advise on quality control measures to ensure high-quality output at or above industry standards
    • Schedule/coordinate all labor and site activities to ensure project expectations are met and executed with a high level of productivity, quality and safety.
    • Schedule and coordinate all material deliveries with the project detailing team, shop fabrications Managers and third-party vendors.
    • Review and track project labor budgets
    • Engage with labor relations representatives to create and foster meaningful, long-term relationships that support company goals including defending and resolving labor disputes
    • Knowledge of current building and mechanical code
    • Coordinate and assist with problem solving strategies with the Project Manager when issues arise.
    • Order tools and equipment required to complete the project
    • Verify equipment prior to delivery/rig day
    • Coordinate with other ACCO departments, vendors and both internal and external subcontractors
    • Schedule and coordinate inspections
    • Process required project documents and put into proper box folders
    • Strong understanding of the Local Unions Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
    • Other tasks and duties as assigned by the Department Manager or upper Management
  • Strategic Planning
    • Understand and support the project(s) strategic plan and goals
    • Ensure adoption and implementation of standard processes and procedures to achieve high level quality, productivity and efficiency across field operations
    • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with construction operations (ie: installations, materials, equipment, personnel)
    • Ensure safety measures are up-to-date and communicated effectively to all field personnel in an effort to mitigate risk and reduce liability
  • Personnel Management
    • Adhere to and promote company policies
    • Instill a culture of accountability, integrity, ethics, and respect within the department
    • Mentor, train and develop top performing leaders (succession planning) to meet current and future business needs and avoid any gaps in strong leadership
    • Coordinate labor requests and reductions with the local union labor halls
  • Collaboration
    • Create and foster collaborative relationships among leadership teams across varying departments and locations
    • Participate in cross-functional initiatives and projects to meet company growth objectives
    • Work closely with Project Managers and PE's on the assigned project(s) regarding

Position Requirements:

  • Experience and deep understanding of the related trades (sheet metal, controls, air balance) and general fabrication practices
  • 12+ years of experience in Construction leading projects
  • Member of the local sheet metal union in good standing
  • Experience with the various business and corporate software technologies ACCO currently utilizes

This position is for signatory employees and wages will be in line with the corresponding area CBA Agreement.
