Position Overview
The Athletic Department Assistant Coach is under the supervision of the Athletic Director and serves as a liaison within the Athletic Department. This position will work with a diverse community of student athletes and support student success measures by building relationships, promoting engagement, and leading with care. The Assistant Coach will comply with all policies,
procedures, and conditions in the Student Handbook, recruiting prospective student-athletes, coordinating team activities, assisting with practice and game preparation, and supporting student-athlete development.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Basketball and Head Volleyball Coaches in planning, managing and evaluating Lee College athletic programs.
  • Assist the Head Basketball and Head Volleyball Coached in teaching, training and monitoring members of the intercollegiate team.
  • Assist in monitoring classroom attendance, study halls and academic programs.
  • Assist with summer camps and community outreach programs.
  • Assist with ensuring equipment and practice facilities are set up and removed.
  • Assist Head Basketball and Head Volleyball Coaches with student athletes during practices, competitions, and conditioning activities.
  • Offer proper motivation and guidance for student athletes to achieve success on and off the court.
  • Assist in athletic event management by scheduling staff, preparing tickets and signs, preparing and balancing cash box if applicable, reserving lockers rooms, preparing the sound room and approving music to be played.
  • Facilitate student athlete engagement by creating an inclusive welcoming environment, being visible and available to student athletes, providing opportunities to interact, and educating on community standards.
  • Attend and participate in all fall and spring training sessions. Complete all trainings by the appointed deadline.
  • Attend practices, games, recruiting events, including department-sponsored events & staff meetings.
  • Be present and provide assistance in respond to crises and emergencies.
  • Ensure compliance with College and NJCAA policies and regulations.

Expectations:
The Assistant Coach position is a full-time, exempt position required to work the full academic year (i.e., 12 months). The expectation is that the majority of time for this position will be spent interacting with student athletes. The Assistant Coach is expected to work a flexible schedule (determined by the Athletic Director) and be available to meet the needs of the Athletic Department.

Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Associate's (or higher) degree or successful completion of sixty (60) college credit hours.
  • One (1) year of related work experience.
  • Must complete a successful background check prior to the start of employment. This is a security-sensitive position.
  • Must be available to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's (or higher) degree.
