Job description

Engineering Supervisor

The purpose of this classification is to supervise and perform professional engineering work of an advanced level in the planning, design, plan review, construction, and maintenance of City transportation and drainage infrastructure under the direction of the City Engineer.

Examples of duties include overseeing the activities of the Engineering Department, supervising and evaluating assigned staff, coordinating daily work activities, assisting with preparation of the capital budget, managing administrative aspects of capital projects, managing capital projects during design and/or construction phases, coordinating and participating in the programming phase of the project, supervising the review of civil engineering and planning aspects of all site development plans, and providing internal and public relations relative to capital projects.

Typical qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering, three years of engineering experience as a Professional Engineer, preferably in civil engineering, a license as a Professional Engineer by the Louisiana State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, a valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.

Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their previous training and experience, including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers, and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification. Examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, a performance test, or any combination thereof deemed necessary to adequately screen and rank applicants.
