The City of Virginia Beach Development Services Center (DSC) with the Department of Planning and Community Development is seeking a Stormwater Engineer I/II to join our team. The DSC reviews and approves all site development plans for the City of Virginia Beach. The position may be classified as a Engineer II or Engineer III I depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

  • Engineer I: $62,857.60 - $97,427.20
  • Engineer II: $69,298.32 - $107,412.40
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Ø Review site development plans, subdivision construction plans and as-built surveys, plats, legal documents and cost estimates for conformance with City and State regulations, codes and policies; Ø Review stormwater management, drainage and grading, street improvements and other public and private infrastructure; Ø Writing comments explaining required revisions; approving development plans and associated engineering calculations and reports; Ø Position requires site visits to trouble shoot, compare plans with field conditions, and help resolve construction issues; Ø Assist customers in a professional manner in person, by phone and e-mail, and participate in project meetings and staff team meetings to coordinate reviews; Ø Virginia DEQ certifications as a stormwater and E and S Reviewer required within one year of employment; The City offers a generous benefits package, which includes health, dental and life insurance, retirement and savings plans, maternity/paternity and parental leave, holidays and leave. **This position is open until filled. Engineer II Minimum Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field with possession of an E.I.T. (Engineer In Training) Certificate and two (2) years of progressive professional experience. Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Additional Requirements: DMV Transcript: Not Required CDL: Not Required DOT History: Not Required CPS Check: Not Required Physical: Not Required Respirator: Not Required Polygraph Review: Not Required Psychological Screening: Not Required Attachments Required: Resume & Cover Letter Preferences: • Strong preference for a Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology. • Experience in Land Development site plan or subdivision plan design or review. • Experience with stormwater management, open channel and piped drainage systems, hydrology, and hydraulics. • Experience with stormwater modeling software (specifically SWMM) or other stormwater design software. • Design or review of streets, pavement design, site grading, water, and sewer systems. • Experience with state and local design resource manuals and local code of ordinances related to stormwater management and land development design. • DEQ stormwater or E&S Plan Reviewer Certification. • Excellent written, verbal, and people skills. Drainage Design or Review Experience with modeling with EPA or PC SWMM software Special Instructions: Please provide a cover letter along with your complete job application which must include your job or college education and experience in any aspects of land development, open channel and piped drainage system design and stormwater management.
